Best replacement exhaust? Help

Last night my exhaust pipe finally rusted through and separated from the muffler. Is there any exhaust/muffler replacements that are better than others? I was looking at OE replacements like Walker or Bosal for about $150 for the muffler section. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Not opposed to aftermarket either.

I put a Bosal cat back on a few months ago. It has a similar sound to stock, but get's really tinny and rattly at high revs. The pipe diameter is smaller than stock, so I felt a minor power drop. The price was right, but I'm not completely happy.
Prior to this, I tried a magnaflow muffler. Definite power increase, but it sounded like a pregnant elephant being whipped in a storm. But hey, some people like that sort of thing

I would recommend oem replacement dont get a gibson i regretted. I paid over 300 for a constant drone power loss and mpg loss:moping: one of my worst purchase.

Stick with oem. Galvanized steel.
The oem lasted this long didn't it and the only weak point was the weld.

you could always be a cheapo like me and insert an exhaust connector to get it back together with a weld bead. Standard size connector fit perfectly inside, then 3 minutes with the welder. don't have a welder? This is a perfect opportunity to buy one, and you still end up saving money. for the occasional repair, the harbor freight one is great for a hundred bucks.

just take it to a reputable local exhaust shop. They are usually really cheap. After i pretzeled my Gibson catback, (sounds like a vacuum over 3000 rpm, do not recommend) i had them do a full custom high tucked exhaust that exits over my passenger frame rail behind the tire and is hidden by the bumper cover. cost me ~400 bucks but ~275-300 of that was my stainless steel BORLA muffler. having someone do a stock style replacement with a simple side turn exit with the muffler of your choice would probably be about 200 bucks or less.

So I have a question to follow up on this thread. Does the V8 Limited have a different exhaust, different clearances or different in any way from the SR5 or Sport models? I purchased a Gibson exhaust and upon closer inspection of the installation instructions there is a footnote that says "Will not fit the Limited Model" yet my year, engine and model (limited) are listed in the applications list. Any insight what so ever would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to tear my exhaust off just to find out this new one doesn't fit accordingly.

I did speak with them when I was ordering and one tech advised me it was fine. I still wanted to confirm though. I called today and spoke with Mark at Gibson who was extremely nice and knowledgable. He confirmed with me that it does not in fact fit the limited models, although he was unable to give me a specific reason as to why it would not fit. He advised that I would need to get it replaced with part #18708 which unfortunately is a straight back design rather than the side swept that I ordered.

I still am extremely curious as to why this model will not fit only the limited trim. Can anyone provide insight to this?

If you ordered it why can't you compare the exhaust you have with the new one?

I just put a Walker system on my '89. It sounds like factory. The muffler is stainless, the pipes are galv. The whole cat back was welded into one piece and with the hangers, insulators, new bolts and gasket, the whole project cost less than $160 on Amazon. Use the Walker catalog for part numbers and enter them on Amazon. WALKER® EXHAUST SYSTEMS :: E-Catalog Lookup
