Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

It's a shame that it took both this long to develop and roll out the next-gen 4x4 products, but it's Toyota, so I'll assume it was time well spent, and that it'll reflect in the quality and dependability of the vehicles. They'll be here once they're here, and they ought to be great. When I saw the LC250 in person, it almost had me kicking myself for dropping $$ money on an ancient 2023 4Runner with all the bells and whistles!

No sarcasm, the first LC250's have been delayed until the April to June time frame, barring any further delays.

Sending out free artwork just solidifies the delay, Ford did the same thing with countless trinkets as the Bronco's rollout faced delay after delay.

Logic says the downstream impacts will push the 6th gen 4Runner reveal and dealer arrival by at least six months. I hope I'm wrong, but with three years of delays, the trajectory seems pretty clear.

If it lands on lots in one year it will be the same as the Tacoma this year. January and I haven't seen any on the lots. I wonder if there will be as many unsold 24 4Runners on lots this time next year as there are 23 tacomas now.

It seems like the GX550 is going to beat the LC to market, likely due to the powertrain difference between the TTV6 and the Hybrid Max system in the LC.

Honestly, if you like the direction the Tacoma has gone, the 4Runner is almost certainly going to be very similar.

At this point I've pretty much decided I'll probably go with a GX550 Overtrail+ as I expect it to beat the LC on luxury and interior significantly. The mpg is unfortunate, but at least I'll have power while getting crap gas mileage (unlike my 4Runner which is a dog and also sucks down gas at 16 mpg).

The GX550 pricing makes me hopeful that the 4Runner and LC250 pricing will be... reasonable. A base GX550 with destination is $64,250. For that price, you get standard 4WD, three row leather seating, and the turbo V6 with the 10-speed automatic. The LC250 gives up the three rows, standard leather, and the V6/10AT, and that makes me think that they truly can't come in over the "mid 50's" estimate they originally threw out. Coupled with the Toyota nameplate, I think they'd be silly to ask more than $55,000 with destination for the base LC250. Who knows, maybe it'll come in a couple thousand below that? And the 4Runner has to come below that still with its further decontenting.

Hopefully all this platform and powertrain sharing helps keep costs reasonable as well. I would like for the new 4Runner to only come in $1-2k over the current one. Pretty sure Toyota is paying severe EPA CAFE penalties on every 4Runner sold and baking that into the price, unless they sell so many hybrids to average out the fleet decently. The new non-hybrid turbo 4cyl isn't the mpg champion of the world, but it's waaay better than the 4.0L/5AT combination at 17mpg combined. Assuming it hits 21mpg combined (nonhybrid 4WD 2024 Tacomas are 20 or 21mpg combined depending), that's a 23% fuel economy increase over the 4.0L, which is not trivial, adds up, and is nice when you're also getting far more torque than the 4.0L ever made at 4400RPM.... at 1700RPM, and without losing serious power at high altitude.

Well, confirmed from their reliable inside source. It seems like a forgone conclusion that the engines will mimic the Tacoma so they really aren't going out on a limb.

They did predict, through a source, that the LC250 would be a 4 cal turbo hybrid only back in the spring before anyone else but I haven't followed every prediction. But I think when the dealers were shown the new 4Runner in Sept they were told the two engine options which doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out at this point.

The issue was with the phrase "confirmed". As of now nothing has been confirmed. Yes, I too would bet on the Taco engine but that's still not the same as anything being confirmed by anyone.
