Best things for a 4RUNNER

Hey guys, so I'm a new 4RUNNER owner, I just bought a 2001 4RUNNER Sport Edition (pretty sure) with pretty low miles. I just have a few questions being new to the site and new to the car that even with searching everything (knowing that probably everything has already been talked about in past threads) I still cant really find the answers I'm looking for because the more I find the more questions I have and it just gets longer and longer.

So First, I am looking into getting a new air filter in my car. I researched the deckplate mod (and my brother) already put that on his 4RUNNER and he said it doesn't really help with power or anything but it does sound cool. So I dont really want the deckplate mod. But I was looking into K&N airfilters because that is what I have used on my past cars, its also what I use on my current hyundai but as I was researching the airfilters and reading I've come to read that K&N doesn't even really clean air that well and still lets in a lot of dirt into the engine...so does anybody have any thoughts on which airfilter is the best? Whether I should stick with K&N and just buy one for my 4RUNNER also or whether or not I should switch?

Second, I'm looking for new headlights, I have a chip in my driver side headlight so I just need to switch the headlight as a whole. But I dont know what headlights to do. I don't want to do any of the drastic mods yet because I dont know if i'd be able to take the headlight apart and reseal it and everything yet. So i'm looking for either suggestions of what to do or at least which aftermarket headlight set up I could use.

Also does anyone know if the Sport Edition is an SR5? That's a dumb question but im just curious. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated, like I said i've already been using the search tool and I just end up with more and more questions lol

As far as intakes go... The stock box functions well if you are looking for clean air. Performance is always a debate. Some say intake will help some. K&n makes a good product. I've done a deckplate on my 99 tacoma I had and didn't notice a difference. If your off-roading then be careful with water and a k&n kit. All about what's important to you

My first suggestion for you would be a set of good tires and upgrade your suspension components (i.e balljoints,shocks etc.) regardless if you want a lift it would be best to replace your shocks and struts for better ride and traction,performance stuff you can add later get your rig road worthy first and safe for you and the family.

Congrats on your 4Runner. I think you will enjoy your truck. Speaking from experience in regard to the airbox mods, I have tried a couple of different methods including a DIY air intake, K&N panel air filter without the deckplate, and finally the deckplate mod with the K&N panel filter. I did not notice any difference with the DIY air intake with the cone filter, actually it seemed to hinder the acceleration response a little. I would say I had the best results with the deckplate mod with the hole cut in the box and the K&N panel filter (seems to breath a little better than the totally enclosed box (you could use paper filter with this mod but it will get dirty really fast). On these trucks you are not going to get much of a gain from air intake mods. You may get a little better throttle response and a cool throaty sound. Hope this helps.

First off. This thread is worthless without pics man.
The Sport edition is an SR5 with a hood scoop and silver trim panel pretty much.
If a good air filter, stick with the stock filter or K&N.
You can find headlights on ebay for cheap that aren't too bad.
