Best Tire for 2005 4Runner SR5 4X4

On my previous 2 T4R's, I've ran the Bridgestone REVO's, Michelin LTX's, Firestone Destination LT's and Firestone Destination AT's (along with a few other lesser tires). Although the Destination LT's & AT's didn't wear as well as the Michelins, I'd run with the AT's over the others if I needed a more aggressive tire with a good bit of snow and the LT's if I was doing 99% highway driving with just some snow. Both were excellent buys.

Big fan of the Revo2s. I just hit 90,000 with them on my '04 (256/65s) - NO LIE - and I do not baby them whatsoever. Maybe I just got lucky?

Just ordered a set of Goodyear DuraTracs to replace them though. I'm not expecting anywhere close to the mileage but I'm going up to 265/70 from stock and adding an OME 2.5" lift. Wanted something a bit more aggressive as well. Would probably have ridden the Revos until 95k, but I've been doing too much driving to the mountains on I-70 in CO this winter and was starting to lose confidence in them.

I know others have not had the same life out of the Revos, but my experience has been very positive.

Lots of great advice on tires! Thanks so much. My advice to all of you is don't buy Nokian Tires. A true dissapointing tire.

I like my Revo 2s. 21k on them now and I see no reason why they won't make 50k. Great grip in rain. Good in snow too. I run them at 40psi.

Also if you are running the factory size.. a 255/70/17 is 1/2 inch taller than the factory 265/65. But it is $40 cheaper per tire than the 265/70s. A least in the Revo 2s when I look at discount tire's website.

Revo 2s - 255/70 -$156/tire

LTX A/T 2s - 265/65 - $ 220/tire
LTX A/T 2s - 265/70 - $198/tire

It is crazy the differance in price one size makes!!

All 3 sizes fit factory. no lift required. I put 265/70s on my 04 2WD with no rubbing.

I am looking for new tires too. Does anyone have pictures with 255 70 17s? I wonder if the tires look skinny on the wheels. Also is there any MPG gain with 255s because of less roll resistance?

I'm looking at the Hankook DynaPro ATm's because of the white letter our and they come in 255 & 265. I also like Nitto TG but then not white letters. My coin is starting to wear out.

What kind of driving are you doing? This makes all of the difference.

Seems like the LTX M/S's are well liked here. I've got these on my car with 80%+ left on them and like them as an on-road tire but want something more for the desert and mountain (rocky/sandy) and am not sure I want to deal with the storage and expense of getting another set of rims and tires (already have one extra set for my car kicking around). I'll probably sell or them and go for something like the Yokohama Geolander A/T-S designed a little more for my environment.
