Best Way to order a cavalry blue trd pro 2018

best thing I've found is to take your current 4Runner and go to a chevy dealer and trade it in on a Zr2 Diesel. oh wait...

My super dooper 2008 FJ Cruiser Trail Teams with manual transmission where only a few hundred were made that MY, garaged, all maintenance, no mods, special paint and badging only garnered a raised eyebrow when I traded it in. Dealers don't care if it was a Special Edition and neither did Black Book.

Don't convince yourself you are making an investment that will appreciate or hold value because of the hype.

In the end it is worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. Maybe private I could have gotten a little more, but even Carmax, which dealers use to value trades could care less it was a TT. The enigma I had in my head of dancing resale $$$ was quickly brought to earth. Six years old and only 52,000 miles.

Same with the Bro 4Runner.

It all depends on the market you are selling into. This is my market:

https://www.truecar.com/used-cars-for-sale/listings/toyota/fj-cruiser/location-denver-co/

Not sure if this is true, but I have heard that dealerships make much higher margins on trade-ins than new cars. I have never traded a car with a dealership. Econ 101 taught me that.

I got mine by dumb luck. In July, I was calling around looking for a '17. Second dealer I called said they don't have any '17's but have a blue '18 coming if I wanted it.

Of course you have to paint the engine bay!

Now that you have established that there are no "savings" under your "joke" scenario, I would be prepared to wager that in 5 years the TRD Pro model will retain more of its original MSRP than any other 4RUNNER model.

I would say there's very little chance that a TRD Pro retains more of it's actual sale price after the 6th gen comes out, either as a percentage or a dollar value. There's just nothing special about them other than color that would add to the used value, and used car buyers are typically far more interested in utility. The easy comparison is TRD Pro tacomas. Once the '17 tacoma TRD Pro hit the street, there's no bump for the prior generation being a TRD Pro. There's not much value for being a Trail Team Ultimate FJ Cruiser either. I'm pretty confident an SR5 will have the highest resale value as a percentage of new or a TRD OR base model.

Since we don't know what the 6th generation will entail I think it is hard to justify your assertion. On the subject of retained value, with Hertz dumping so many relatively low mileage base SR5's on the market I don't see your hypothesis proving correct.

If you go on autotrader most of the Trail Team Ultimate FJ Cruisers are all 30k+ with a ton of miles. Brand new they were what, 36k? That's pretty good resale value after 4 years or so.

It's pretty easy to predict if you take an objective look at it. No appearance package has probably ever in the history of automobiles retained more of its original value than the base model. In the used market for non-late model vehicles, a TRD Pro is just an SR5 with a funny color to 99% of buyers. The limited models have significant content additions and they won't have much additional value either.

I am with you on Americans need for goofy badging on trucks. I mean you kind of wonder about what possesses someone to put a badge on a vehicle where one never existed ??? I mean talk about weirdos.

And.... so are base model FJ Cruisers. There's no price difference. They all have great resale. The base model has by far the best as a percentage of new cost.

Lol because thats the same ballpark as someone paying thousands over MSRP for anything ;): :thumb: Nice try though.

I am paying MSRP (all badging included), in cash, in a market where maybe 65-75 % of sales are at MSRP+. I get a vehicle that looks a sh@@ ton better than a stock Off Road Premium with a unique/desirable color, and I have price protection (in my market) for at least several years. At that point I could buy a 6th generation or something else with little financial loss. What's not to like?

True but they don't make the FJ's any more so I'm sure this has some play with the value

Just one example:

Plymouth Superbird - Wikicars

I wonder what the guy who bought one of the models converted back to stock thinks today?

Lol you just spent 7000 bucks more than any other trim to get those stinkin badges. Seems you classified yourself as one of the 15%. My badges cost $13 and you don't even have to put them on your truck! :flipoff:

Hate to break it to you, the 4Runner is no FJ40, even 30 years from now garaged and prime it won't yield those prices.

Man I can't wait until the 6th gen comes out, all you resale worried folks will move on, and this sub-forum can return to the pleasant days before the turd.

I think it's absolutely absurd to buy something based on how much you can sell it for later. Just perpetuates this terrible throw away culture and drives the American populous and governments further into debt with the banks and corporations.

I hate to break it to you folks, but there's nothing unique about your new car. Matter of fact, there are millions of unsold brand new cars parked all over the world that don't have a home.

Sorry guys, but we're all suckers... I choose to hold onto a $40,000 vehicle, pay it off, and enjoy the fact I bought a car based on longevity, not necessarily its shine.

But what the hell do I know anyway? Back to your regularly scheduled programming...
