Hey, I ordered a Cavalry Blue (will be my 5th 4Runner) after years of lusting after one. I fully know it is an appearance package. Am I a deuche?

So I build a 2018 Toyota TRD Off-Road premium with kdss comes out to be $41,490 and 2018 Trd Pro in White with sliding deck for $44,020. The difference is $2,500 for a unique appearance, A/T Tires, Unique rims and Trd Suspension. That is worth the $2,500 in upgrades.

Does anyone take into account their personal costs when comparing the cost of buying a TRDP upfront or choosing to spend their time and money trying to make a lesser trim look like one?
Just a curiosity question, I evaluate a lot with DIY projects where the attempt to save money would end up costing people more. Not just with cars, anything really, putting in sod, building a fence, painting a house etc.
yeah, that grill snapped in place in under 10 minutes on my lowly lesser trim.
And I didn't have to get rid of the mediocre tires
lesser was not insinuating "lowly" - its a fact, there are varying trim levels at different prices. I only bring this up out of curiosity, not as an insult
If I can buy something up front for $100, or can buy part of it for $50 and add on a $40 part, but I have a $150 hourly rate to install, and it takes an hour, it doesn't make sense to DIY
in the end, I'm losing $140 - see where I'm going? No need to be defensive.

Yes it's a joke.
I don't know about value. TRD Pro is an appearance package, I'm not sure a custom paint would be much different. Once the 6th gen comes out the "TRD Pro" won't have any special value either. If the paint is well done, no one will know the difference. It's a port installed appearance package so there's no special vin code or anything to designate it as a TRD Pro.
A repaint on a new vehicle would have minimal body prep, but to do it right you'd have a good amount of labor to remove the engine and all the trim pieces.. I'd expect to pay about $5-8k for a full paint job including the door jams and engine bay, or about $3500 if the engine bay doesn't get repainted. If you started with black it probably wouldn't look out of place.
So strip the truck down to do a color change...nah, that's about the dumbest idea I've heard in a while. You'll spend more on the paint than the difference in the truck models. You'll be lucky if the truck gets put back together correctly. It will always be a fake pro, it will be worth less money than if you had never painted it. Nothing about this plan makes any sense.
OP, just search around the country and be prepared to travel to get your truck or having it shipped.
