What is your next step? Are you calling the real eBay to verify the transactions in person and report it? Be careful.
Hope you aren't sending any money to Greece.

Haha! No I had fun with it for a bit and then when the con artist asked where the money was I asked him if he was stupid enough to think I would actually send it.

It appears they use the real eBay to facilitate the transaction. It is quite a confidence game they play but easy to spot once you know what to look for.

Probably no point reporting to eBay as the conmen change bank accounts and emails daily.

I wanted to send $1 but thought it would be carrying it a bit too far.

Btw if you want to see all the scam ads search Vancouver, BC craigslist.
for "2008" nothing else.

And priced at 13,000 on the nose.
All the high end ones will be scams.

Saw the same scam recently when I was looking for a tractor. They always use the same playbook.
Price is usually below $5000 in the USA so the FBI will not get involved. The "tractor" was not able to be photographed as it was "sitting in the shippers warehouse in NYC ready to be shipped. Price included shipping to me AND back again if I did not like it!" Sent me a false Ebay page to "Buy It Now". The IP address of the hosting site was in Russia and associated with a number of other scams.
When I appeared a little wary of the whole shipping thing I was told that there was no risk as they would take it back at no charge. At this point I told them to ship it COD and when I actually saw a tractor I would send them cash. "After all, for all I know you are some scam artist sitting in Russia trying to rip me off!" Never heard another thing. Go figure.

Yep, ran into plenty of these scams on Craigslist when I was looking for my 'Runner. I still emailed a few on the off chance that it was just a good deal (some weren't too far off KBB), and several times, I got the exact same form email back. Made me chuckle a bit. The first one I got put a lot more effort into it though. Actually provided more pictures when I asked, gave a lovely sob story about how it had been her dead son's car and that she wanted to get rid of it because it hurt too much to look at it. Then she pulled the Ebay Purchase Plan on me.

He seems to have one price for everything $ 13 000 and free shipping.
Hard to believe they are people more dumm than this guy to fall for the scams.
Hopping he does not follow this forum, I am going to drag him for as long as i can

I found a "too good to be true" deal once on an FJ80 on Autotrader. Lifted, locked, tires, no damage, bumpers, winch, etc....all for 6k. When I contacted them they immediately wanted me to send them 1K deposit and would not answer simple questions about the truck. Found out it was a guy over on IH8MUD's truck that they must have just swiped the pic from. :nono:

I enjoy keeping the con-artist busy so that they focus all thier attention on me, and hopefully I can keep them so busy that they won't have time to try to defraud others. We have a variety of tools we use (ie.. I can generate "authentic looking" western union reciepts, moneygram, and thel ike) to try further stall them. If you guys receive anything, or notice anything, I'd be happy to "mess with them" for a while, it's rather fun. It's actually called "scambaiting". If you wish to forward me some things, just shoot me a pm for my bait email address. I don't want to post it in an indexed forum because I use it often.

Another good one is when you are selling a vehicle, they claim to be a broker and have a client (out of the country) who wants to buy your vehicle and will make the shipping arrangements. They entice you by telling you the client will pay the asking. It goes like this; they will send you a certified check for the total amount and $3K extra for shipping. They make sure there is extra money (at least $1K) and tell you to send the difference Western Union, within a couple days after you get the certified check. I played along and you have to see the certified check, it looks REAL! If you deposit it, it will take up to 2 weeks to find out it is a fraud. Some people let their greed cloud their judgment (getting their asking price) and fall for it!
