LT has a higher load capacity on the tire (read stronger sidewalls), which normally tends to make them more resistant to punctures when you air down for wheeling. However most LT tires have a lower speed rating than P tires normally 106 MPH vs 112 MPH for the RUnner. Now remember the Runner (4th Gen) has a limiter for 112 MPH. In terms of ride quality the P should be a ltiile better as it will absorb more due to softer sidewall.
I have the Revo's in P and have done some offroading, including rock work, and had no problems with them. The more I drive them the better I like them. SO far they have been excellent, I just need to brush up my driving skills
as the equipment has been good.

I have a 2001 4runner SR5. I am at 61,000 miles with the stock Dunlop TG35. 265/70R/16. I plan to get the BS Dueler A/T Revo because of all the great reviews and I would like to get into off roading. I have been reading a lot about tire size. What is recommended for my 4R? I'd like the truck to be a little taller but it doesn't necessarily have to be due to the tires.

It is also a great offroad tire (the Revo). The 3rd Gen has plenty of ground clearance, about 2-3" more than the 4th Gen (big complaint with the 4th Gen it needs 2" more stock) so with just the tires you will be good for some moderate off roading. Better to start slow, with no mod vehicle and as you want to do more chalenging stuff mod it, if you want.

The section width spec is the widest point of the tire, which is often wider than the treaded part of the tire.

Yeah, they were probably just trying to explain away why they had put the H/Ts on your truck so maybe you wouldn't make them exchange the H/Ts for the REVOs you had asked for.
Toyota does put H/Ts on as OEM equipment. But this is just because they are inexpensive and give a comfortable, quiet ride but I don't think it means they are recommending these as the only tires you should use. They do recommend a certain size tire, either 265/70-16 or 265/65-17 and some major chain stores would refuse to put on any other size.

I made them exchange the tires and then they forgot to put them on. They also said they can't get raised white letters for a week or two so I have to settle for the black letters. It was funny that the salesman said that you "rarely see raised white letters anymore" yet when I got back on the road I was surrounded by them. Ah salesmen and their stories.. The revo's do come in raised black letters, correct? I am so scared I am going to have some other A/T on there. I think that becasue I am a girl they think I don't know anything...

I can't believe this.... Now (2 days later) they told me they don't have the tire but it can be ordered but that it will take 10-20 days. I am just having them put my old tires back on. They already charged me so they have to give me my money back. I think I am going to get royally screwed somehow on this deal.

the Revo's mostly come in white lettering. i couldn't get it without it in my size 265/70/17. so i had the shop flip them inwards so the black lettering was on the outside, my preference. so the tires normally have one side white and one side black. as they are not directional tires you can choose wwhich side you want.
dont let these shops mess with you, let them put the old tires on. if you paid by credit card they must refund you. if they want to charge you anything just have your cc company cancel all transactions with them. they can't charge you a penny. just make sure they put on your old tires, and that it is balanced correctly. dont say anything before that, once you are in running condition just demand your full refund back. if they screw around phone your cc and the bbb. find another dealer or order the tires of the web and get another shop to put them on. first find out how much the shop with charge for fitment, balancing and disposal fees.

They had to order the tires and keep the same price. So I am actually saving $200 (vs ordering from tire rack, plus shipping plus mounting/balancing) because I had one of those buy 3 get one free coupons that they had to honor from a different dealer. Everyone at Toyota is in a fuss about this because I am getting 4 Dueler A/T Revo's with mounting and balancing for $460. In the meantime they put my old tires back on. Ah I hope this works out like it should!!! Keep your fingers crossed!
