BFG 255/80/17 MT KM2's (Lots of Pics!)

Well I got around to taking some pics of my new tires that I put on last week. I went from BFG 255/75/17 MT KM's to BFG 255/80/17 MT KM2's. It was basically going from a 32x10" tire to a 33.5x10" tire. I think the exact rating from BFG is 32.1 for the 75's and 33.4 for the 80's

I am definitely happy I did it, these tires should do even better off road than my previous set of MT's. They are more aggressive than the previous set, and will allow me a little bit more ground clearance. There are definitely some downsides when compared to the KM's, namely these are louder as well as ride slightly worse (went from C rated to E rated).

Also, if you are not running quite a bit of lift, you will struggle to fit these without insane amounts of rubbing. I am running around 5" of lift, and my tires still rub (3.5" suspension lift, 1.5" body lift). My truck measures 39.5" ground to fender in the front and 40" ground to fender in the back.

You can see the amount of trimming that has been done up front

You can see how close they are to the mud flaps, they rub during normal driving occasionally, so flexing off road will probably require taking the mud flaps off.

I agree- why are you running so skinny?

I went for the skinny approach b/c they are taller than the wider 285's(more ground clearance) and also provide more grip in most environments. Also, they were cheaper.

I only have 4 as of now, I highly doubt that it will fit in the spare location though. I will probably put my spare on the roof.

Mine is the full factory replacement with the light cage. Not sure if it it is on the website. The rack is about $525 and light cage $200.

Sorry I got to into your great photos I missed that. Thanks for the info. However you did raise another issue that l have some trouble following. Blair you talka bout now having a lesser ride going from a D tire to your current E tire.

I understood that the higher letter rating was necessary for heavier trucks. I'm assuming that is because the sidewall is thicker to support the extra weight, and consequently the resulting ride will be harsher?

dude they look sick! I'm glad I decided not to go with those tires cuz I would have had major rubbing issues. I stayed with the destination a/t 275/70/17 and they rub pretty bad. Glad you like them!
