what psi is everyone running?
32 psi herewhat psi is everyone running?
It looks like all they did was take the orignal KO and add sidewall tread. The original KO's sucked, i mean truly AWFUL, on ice. Ok in snow, and not great in mud. And they are stupid expensive. ...I dont get all the excitement.
They are an all terrain, why would you think they would work good in mud?
I do not agree with you at all. I have run many sets of the old KO and they all were great. I live in the desert so I do not know what ice, snow and mud are.
for my purposes they are great. They are an all terrain, why would you think they would work good in mud? Going to order my new KO2 tires today or tomorrow. They are about the same price as other tires I have looked at with 3 ply sidewalls.

There's plenty of side by side comparisons on the interweb if you care to google. This picture speaks volumes. You can also see the difference in tread pattern.
That tells me they have a harder rubber compound which means they have a longer tread life but are probably even worse on ice. Anyways...enjoy the ko2's
ICE?
what tire works good on ice? unless its studded im guessing nothing works all that well on ice:flypig:
i work in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay AK. we deal with ice 8-9 mos a year, i drive on ice roads on the ocean and fresh water, all the raods are snow packed and our parking lots are polished so the snow dosent stick or build up (its always windy). our fleet of f-150-350's run GY Duratracs and some Michelin and Toyos. the f550's are all on the new Toyos.
when its icy slick not one tire works better than the other, i can slide a f-150 on duratracs as well as i can a loaded 550 on toyos.
Definitely disagree. Of course you can make any tire slide and any tire will slide in the right conditions, but some less than others and some a lot less than others. I drive about 70k miles a year go through a set and a half of tires a year (oilfield as well) and I guarantee duratracs or winter tires or a handful of other AT tires will have more traction on ice than those BFG's.
If you would like a list of tires I have tried over recent years.
Firestone Destination AT
Firestone Transforce AT
2x Goodyear Wrangler SA - favorite overall for work truck
2x Goodyear Duratrac - on my 3rd set as of yesterday
2x BFG KO - 1 on personal vehicle 1 on work truck, lasted forever, hated them forever.
Michelin AT2
Cooper ST - brief stint w/ these, seemed pretty good
probably a couple others
SilentArmors are good in snow, quiet and get good mpg,
The sidewall looks more aggressive but all in all, it's still the same old BFG mall terrain. If you live in a dryer area, I can see how it's a good option for a daily driven wheeler. But here in BC where the trails are muddy for 8 months of the year, they don't cut it. I've found they turn to slicks in any sort of mud.
