Bicycle Roof Rack Pics

Just curious what you all are using on the top of your 4runners?

Ive been using snowboard/ski racks for years on the top of oem racks so I do trust the cross bars.

I am looking to get the Rocky Mounts Tierod. They look the best in my opinion. Also they are made in the USA!

I just returned my thule t2 as it was a pita. The only other hitch mounted rack i would get is 1up usa. But those are $500 and not in my budget this year.

Hoping to see some pics of what you guys have?

I didn't realize sport editions had a better looking factory rails. Do you get much wind noise on the highway with the bikes off the truck?

RockyMounts Pitchforks on the roof, they attach to square/tube crossbars but I modified it to fit my Gobi rack after I bought it.

Used those for a while then got tired of removing the front tire and lifting them onto the roof after long rides. Picked this up off Craigslist in Springfield MO on the way home from a CO trip.

I've got two rocky mount tie rods on the factory cross bars. Have worked great so far and are really low-profile, helps with the parking garages in SF.

I've got two Thule Sidearms that work great for our mountain bikes, beach cruisers, and tri bikes.... I accidentally drove into a parking garage with the bike on, and my factory rack disintegrated, but I'll post pics as soon as I get my new Gobi rack on. They should mount right up to the Gobi.

Yeah, the 06-09 Sports came with different rails and steps. I have almost zero wind noise from the bikes but that might be because my tires are so loud.

Just curious why you don't like the Thule T2? I've always found it easy enough to use. I thought about the 1UP as well but it was too expensive and I found the T2 locally off Craigslist.. I've also got a Sportworks tray that I mounted to the roof cross bars. It's been solid as a rock, but the design is basically the same as the T2.

I was in the same situation. Got tired of taking the wheel off. Picked up a cheap Swagman. Very happy w/ it though

I just ordered the Kuat NV hitch rack(with the NV 2 extension, holding 4 bikes) and the Kuat Vagabond X roof basket(also has 2 built in skewers to hold 2 bikes by fork). My buddy has both and THEY ARE SOLID! WELL BUILT! and the hardest to find WELL THOUGHT OUT! Engineered by riders!

You should be able to figure out one way or another to mount any of em on there even if you have to just drill holes like I did with the rocky mounts and my gobi... although I don't think I could put a bike on a roof that high BEFORE the ride, much less after.

I would tried to avoid mounting bike on the roof rack if I could but that seem to be the only way, hitch wouldn't work for me because of cbi rear bumper and tire carrier bike mount wouldn't also work.

btw where did you end up drilling the hole at and was that needed, I thought its a clam on style?

Forgot about the bumper & carrier... I drilled a hole right in the middle of the bike tray in the front. Then used the bolt that was already there in the back. They do clamp on but since I don't have bars to clamp to I had to do something different

I had the older style and the arm that holds the front wheel just dident fit over 29er wheels. I could squeeze it over a 29x2.0 but im running a 2.2 and it just sucked. I might get a kuat nv rack I found for 300. We will see...

Ahh.. Just FYI the newer Thule T2s work w/ 29ers. That's a Size-L Santa Cruz Tallboy w/ 29x2.2 rubber pictured on mine.

Thanks guys! I ended up finding a kuat nv rack from a guy for $300. I will get a roof mount rack for my pop up soon as summer gets closer.
