Big Bear August 4 report.

Oh, my buddy and I may be hitting the trails again next weekend. Thinking about Cleghorn to Pilot Rock as discussed. Will update in a few days if anyone is interested....

I'm down to go. I won't know for sure until Thursday or Friday.[/QUOTE]

Pretty much booked the rest of the month but if you guys set one for next month you can count me in! Gotta buy a few things for the runner in the meantime. A compressor and tire deflators would be a nice start.

Snow&surf originally posted him and his buddy were planning on pilot rock/cleghorn. So keep an eye out for his post if interested.

Which air compressor do you guys have? Found a couple on amazon and there is one that look like the one everyone had but it only pumps 120 psi...

I have one I bought from Overland before they went out of business. It is a heavy duty compressor and is fast. $60 Not sure of the manufacturer, but I think it is the same brand as the ones every one else was using, but bigger and faster.

I have the Viair 300P
Got it from Amazon. It's not the cheapest but it works really well. I picked this one because of the reviews. Many of the other ones had lots of mixed reviews. But this one has worked great for me so far. Fairly fast at pumping too.

Only complaint is that the gauge is off. It seems like it's a gauge of the cable and not the tire pressure. So you'll still need a separate tire pressure gauge.

I have the smittybilt 2780. I've been dealing with a guy from 4wp for a while now. He stated to me for the money for the smitty 2780 it performs pretty good. If your running 33's anyone of those will be good. If you don't mind waiting a little longer. The 2781 is a little bit more and is able to fill up 35's in a couple minutes. So if you wanna air up quick, get something like the 2781 or something equal to that. If not you will be fine with the others. Some of the viair compressors can be hard wired. Search the web to find out which models can be done this way.

I have some videos uploaded to dropbox. Big Bear run Aug 4 2012

Mostly of the Jacoby run
Videos of crazy dave getting stuck and getting unstuck, snow&surf, snow&surf's FJ friend (sorry forgot name), db status, Keemonrunnin, and of course scooby doo! All raw.

Who had the spaare tire carrier that went into the hitch mount spot? Sorry I can't remember, but I know it was on a 5th gen. I noticed that it had a recovery shackle spot on it as well.

It was actually snow&surfs runner. I was asking him about it too. It's pretty nice! When I was driving behind him there wasn't a whole lot of movement/rattle.

I had the shop fab a tab to fit a 3/4" D-shackle at the end of the mount.

Yup. The carrier is very stout. It does not rattle and if it does move it's unnoticeable. When I first used it offroad I always had my eye on it and stepped out often to check it. Now I don't even think twice about it.

So who made it man? Is it the CBI one? And is that your truck on their website?

OK, so my buddy and I ARE running Cleghorn and Pilot Rock this Saturday (8/11/12) and will be at the trailhead at 9am right off the 15 fwy. If any of you are interested let me know.

How was the trail run in Saturday? I've done Cleghorn but not Pilot Rock. How tough was Pilot Rock?
