since i installed a better stereo the stock alt wasn't cutting it any more...after some research i picked up a cs-144 out of a 95 cadillac deville which is rated at 100 amps at idle not the 40 or so like the stock one...install was easy its a monster compared to the stocker i was also able to reuse the stock belt
here's the write up i went by CS-144 alternator install

Dude thats awesome... ive been wanting a new one since my stereo system in the 4runner is needing more power. How much did u get the alt for, was it new or used?

Does anyone know if that would be better or worse than the stock alternator in regard to mudproofness/waterproofness?

this ones way more mud proof funny thing is if you look up prices for a stock size one its pretty much the same price as the bigger one ... i picked mine up for about 45 dollars used with a 6month warranty

Nice work. I started a thread on TTORA asking about alternator upgrade choices a few months ago and no one seemed to know what alternators to use. Thanks for the info, adding it to the list of mods..

i doubt there will be any effects on gas mileage actually the gm pulley size is slightly smaller than the stock one

next on my list is a bigger battery this one i got out of a jetta is too small and then maybe redo my big 3 in bigger wire

So you didn't do any other modifications like the one's mentioned by FogRunner like the stock belts being 1" - 2" longer? I may just look into doing this mod too sometime...Good find Elton.

my alternator just pooped out today. I'm going to replace it tomorrow. I'll see if I can find this model. Thanks for the info!
