Optima was purchased by a Mexican company, and now the batteries are produced there. There are not the same quality as they used to be. People are having many more issues than before.

My battery is in route. Anything special I need to do when replacing my battery other than disconnect and reconnect alarm wise, etc.? I have a Limited FWIW.

Which battery did you go with and what site did you buy it on?? Been looking at a bigger battery for a while. I believe all you need is a bigger battery tray for the install but someone else may know better.

Johnson Controls bought Optima around 2000 and moved production to Mexico. As I recall, the folks on the DieselPage were not favorably impressed. Maybe the warranty got reduced, too?
YMMV... I don't see why good batteries can't be made in Mexico.

We run a Odyssey 34R-PC1500T primary battery (reverse pole) and a
Odyssey 34/78-PC1500DT auxiliary battery.
The 34R-PC1500T is $275 and fits in the stock location just fine.
I know this is an older post, but did you have to make any alterations to the tie down for the main battery or is it all the stock hardware? Looking to upgrade my 2 year old battery before installing a winch and light bar.
Also, is that the access for your winch in the plastic shroud thingy?
This method also (sometimes) works for fishing/camping gear and firearms...

I was looking into the Northstar as well, how do you like it and what did you have to do to make it fit?

I just bought this battery:
Duracell Ultra Platinum 31 after rebates and coupons and taxes and core charges it worked out to $240. its also american made, made by East Penn-Deka.
I purchased a NOCO GenM1 on-board charger for it. The regular NOCO chargers charged at too high of a voltage, but the on-board chargers are 14.4V which is within spec. I have the install and operations manual from East Penn for this battery if anyone wants it. I spoke with East Penn and they recommended Clore Automotive; i contacted Clore because their website didn't show technical specs for their chargers and they just replied "check the website." I contacted NOCO, they reviewed the O&M manual and said the GenM1 would work well.
I bought this tray because it was amazon prime and i can have it tomorrow: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ZMKJWU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 none of the local auto parts stores had a 13" metal tray and the basic $10 trays online wouldn't be here to next week.

If you only buy American because you're worried about the quality of Mexican parts, then you're not "buying American," you're a rational consumer who prefers a better product.
