Reading through the description and what not I'm still a little lost. I understand it's a battery charger, but looking at the pictures I don't quite understand what it plugs into? I would have "originally" assumed a standard wall outlet, but I'm not really seeing many indications of that on the description.

Can you please explain how it works and what setting you use the charger on? Just want to make sure I at least understand what I'm buying, prior to pulling the trigger.

Yes, it plugs into a wall outlet. Read through the description from the manufacturer on the Amazon listing. It gives a very detailed description of this charger's capabilities. It's a battery charger and it maintains your battery. This one in particular maintains a high enough voltage in float mode to keep up with the Odyssey batteries. I just keep it on the "snowflake" setting, plug it in, and forget about it. You could keep this on your battery for months if you wanted to and it will not hurt it. It is fully automatic so you put it on the desired mode and the charger takes over. I usually throw it on once every week or two to top the battery off.

One cool feature is the supply mode. You can hook it up to your battery cables while you change out your battery so you don't lose any of your presets on your radio or any other settings you might lose while disconnecting a battery.

I definitely recommend this item to keep your odyssey in top shape.

If you are running bone stock on your electrical system, I personally wouldn't spend the change on a high dollar battery like that. I do think it is a good idea to always keep a good quality lithium jump pack on hand though

I use to upgrade my batteries after living in las vegas, but that was before the invention of a jump pack. These days, I just carry around a jump pack and function check it once a month or so.

I have spent many dozens of hours and many hundreds of dollars fixing cracks in my driver's side fender and trying different battery tie downs, only to have to relocate the battery to the passenger side and buy a group 34 size. My fully functional 31M sits in the corner of my garage on a battery tender.

I just bought this battery:

Duracell Ultra Platinum 31 after rebates and coupons and taxes and core charges it worked out to $240. its also american made, made by East Penn-Deka.

I purchased a NOCO GenM1 on-board charger for it. The regular NOCO chargers charged at too high of a voltage, but the on-board chargers are 14.4V which is within spec. I have the install and operations manual from East Penn for this battery if anyone wants it. I spoke with East Penn and they recommended Clore Automotive; i contacted Clore because their website didn't show technical specs for their chargers and they just replied "check the website." I contacted NOCO, they reviewed the O&M manual and said the GenM1 would work well.

you can buy a battery box, like a arcpak or a cheapo batterybox for fishing boats, and move it to the back of the truck, thats what I did for my 31M, so it doesn't got to waste.

I got the 4A version (NOCO Gen M1) and am very happy with it.

For me when I'm charging I'm usually parking somewhere at least overnight, so 4A is plenty to fully charge my battery during that time. It is also more than enough to manage the load of my fridge, so for example if I'm going to be out of town or something I leave the charger plugged in so i don't have to worry about emptying out the fridge or cleaning it to prevent mildew (with temps in the 90's i get about 1.5 days from the battery with the fridge shutoff on high and up to about 3 days on medium, and i tend to leave it on high for day to day use and only use medium when camping)

If you need something that will charge in an afternoon or something, get the 10A

(For NOCO chargers only the on-board chargers had acceptable voltages for my battery, DEKA reviewed the other NOCO chargers and said not to use them. The on-board chargers are in-spec though)

I can't give you a definite answer because I don't know. What I can tell you is I throw mine on the CTEK once every two weeks on average. I usually let it stay on there at least overnight, sometimes for two full days if I'm not going to be driving the 4Runner. From what I've read that seems to be sufficient, but I guess time will tell.

I appreciate all of the comments advising caution on the "too heavy" 31 size. I went with the Odyssey 34R-PC1500T, with spacer, $241 delivered. And, 6 months to pay using Paypal!
