Biggest tire, smallest rim, no lift?

Biggest tire with minimal or no lift

Hi all,

I have both a 4th gen and a 5th gen. I'm quite familiar with my 4th gen but not as much with my 5th gen. The 5th gen is our family hauler so we don't plan on lifting it but we want to get some new rims and tires for it.

What is the smallest rim size I can go with on a 2010 T4R Limited?
What is the largest tire diameter that we can go with?

My wife wants zero rub. Simple black rims with a little meat on the tires. (on my 4th gen, with an OME, 285/70-17. bodd chop and lots of trimming, I stlll rub)

Any advice?

(for instance, on the 4th gen Limited, to achieve little to no rub, you'd have to go with a 265/70-17. You can't go with a 16inch rim because it will not fit with the calipers.)

Okay, so I'm still weighing options of price of tires/wheels.

I use my 4th gen for exploring so I don't need a huge lift but what are my options for the 5th gen?

If I get a lift, it won't be for offroad use. It will be just to stuff bigger tires and to look a bit more aggressive.

From what I gather, my options are:

Bilstein 5100 0-2.5/0-2.5 (I'm assuming the higher it is, the rougher the ride)
2 x 24-196499 Bilstein Front Shocks
2 x 33-187174 Bilstein Rear Shocks

Bilstein 5100 with but diff drop is needed
Toytec/Eibach 112620 front lift coils
Suplexflex rear coils (don't know the product number)
(3 /3 lift i think)

FJ coils with Bilstein 5100 (2.5-3 lift, I think)

OME
2 x OME2884 Front Coil Springs
(use OME885 or OME2887 for heavier load applications)
2 x 90010 Front Struts
2 X 60080 Shocks
(use 60081 for heavier load applications)
2 X OME2889 Springs
(use OME2898 or OME2899 for heavy load rear accessories)
OME95PF5 Spacer required on driver side for KDSS equiped vehicle.
No top mounting bushings are supplied, re-use OE bushings.

I'm leaning towards the Bilstein 5100 with stock springs OR Bilstein 5100 with FJ Coils.

Not gonna lift huh.

hahaha. Yeeea, the more I've been looking at parts available for the 5th gen, I'm thinking of just getting rid of my 4th gen for a new family hauler and taking the 5th gen. I just saw CBI building a custom fuel cell, there are tons of options for lifts, front and rear bumpers and other options.

This might start getting expensive. hahaha...

^^lol! At this rate, next week he'll be onto Icon Stage X with triple bypass shocks on the side

4x4x8, you might want to double check and make sure the FJ rear coils will give you a lift...for some reason I remember reading here that to doesn't really lift much on the 5th rear end (like it does on the 4th gen). I recall it being something about how the 5th gen is heavier, not positive.

But won't the Bilstein 5100 still lift it a bit if I set it higher?

I even changed my first post's title. hahaha...

I will tell you this:
If you only plan on maxing out at 285's then chances are you will rub slightly lift or no lift. Inner fender liner or maybe mudflap at full lock. I don't think rubbing at full stuff happens until the 305-315 size and that requires a BMC. To minimize rubbing have your caster set at as close to 4.0 as possible.

With 285's some who lift it rub. Some without lift don't rub. Point is lifting will not guarantee no rubbing.

The front you can, the rear you can't, the height is determined by the springs...

I see. Thanks for the info.

Will only putting the B5100 cause a rake effect?

*edit* That's why they call it the "leveling kit". I'm not too bright.

I don't think I want the 285s again, only because on my 4th gen with a light OME, almost non-existent fender liner and BMC, I still get rubbing. I don;t mind much but the wife hates it. hahaha. I will most likely go with a 275 max and go taller like you suggested.

The way the 5100s work is, the front ones have a movable perch so you can set it anywhere from no lift to 2.5" lift; thus, how much rake you get depends on where you set it. I think once you hit the 1.75" perch it will be pretty much visually level, so if you go past that, you'd likely end up with reverse rake.

The rear 5100s don't work this way because it's just a shock, and not a coil over strut setup in the rear. You can completely remove the rear shock and the rear end will still be at the same height, lol.

Got it. Thanks for the info. As you can tell, I'm not too mechanically inclined.

So, in order to lift the front and the back with the 5100, I would have to get springs as well. With only the 5100, I would be just leveling it out.

Yup, that's pretty much the jist of it. Check out the lift pictures thread that's stickied here for ideas on how much whatever rear spring lifts the rear end. A popular combo around here is the 5100s set to 2.5" in front and Sway-A-Way rear coils, check out Antman's thread for pictures, he just recently had this exact setup installed. Looks great IMO.

Probably the most important thread in the 5th gen forum:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...te-search-toyota-4runner-5th-gen-section.html

And the research begins.

And congrats on search nazi-ing yourself before someone else does, :bigok:
