I have seen many 285/70s on stock wheels. How wide are you wanting to go?

i wanna go 285/70s but i see alotta guys going to 17x8 when they go to a 285 or bigger, i am pretty sure my stock wheels are 17x7 i just wanna make sure it is safe and wont be a hazard down the road if i put on 285/70s

There are at least 3 or 4 I remember off the top of my head running them on stock SR5 wheels, all of which have Spidertrax spacers. Maybe they rub on the UCA, not sure, maybe just a coincidence.

yea rubbing on the uca is my biggest concern? i guess i am just gonna have to test em out and see

running 285/70/17 on stock TE rims. I have the OME 3" lift front and rear. Prepare for a big drop in MPGs (6mpgs for me!) but I have a lot of additional weight on my truck. No rubbing on the STOCK UCA's (apart from off road angulation), though there is a little rubbing on hard aggressive turns (u-bends/on road).

Would I go the same size again? Yes and No; YES for when I plan to primarily use the truck off road, right now a lot of driving is commuting to work so NO. I'm thinking I going smaller on my next tires.

Stock trails come with 7.5" rims and SR5s got hosed with a 7" wide rim.
The minimum recommended width for 285s is 7.5" but some here have proved they will still technically fit.

I have a SR5 - just ordered the OW 2.0 full lift kit, with Light Racing UCA's. Duratrac 285/70's are already here, waiting to be installed on the stock rims. I thought I was going to be fine, but this thread is making me think twice. So, (1) Can I keep the stock rims and run these tires? (2) Do I need some kind of spacer with the stock rims, and if so, what kind? (3) If they're not going to work, I'd like to buy Pro Comp 7069's in I guess 17x8. Can someone please tell me the proper backspacing or the part number for the correct wheels, so I can make sure I get the right ones?

I see that a lot of guys are running spidertrax spacers with their 285's on stock rims. Is this necessary, or just for looks only, since it'll give the truck a wider stance?
