Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks and tire size

I am about to buy the 5100 adjustable shocks (if they ever come off backorder lol) and I was wondering what the max tire size I could run. They are supposed to provide up to 2.5" of lift. I have 265/75/16 on there right now and I figured I could probably run a 285/75/16. Does anybody have these shocks on their 3rd gen? How are they as far as sagging goes, and what size tire do you run?

1) Bilstein's are no longer on backorder. They came off backorder about 2 weeks ago so no long waits anymore :biggrin2:
2) Yes, the biggest tire size you can run without rubbing and hammering in the wheel wells are 285/75/16
3) Lots of guys run these on their 3rd gens. The are the best shocks as far as minimal sagging goes. The coils are what really keep the rear from sagging. If you are worried about sagging and want a stiffer ride go with the OME 891 coils- they're the medium stiffer coils

Really? I've been checking Downsouth Motorsports.com, toytec, as well as a couple of other sites. They say they will have them by middle of August. Is there another place I'm missing?

So just to recap, you're saying I will be fine with 2.5" lift and the 285's. I also read on here that late in 2000 toyota shortened the front springs. I have a 2000 so how would I figure out if mine are? Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here but I searched and searched and couldn't find an answer to my specific question. Theres just so much s%$# to sift through haha.

1) My buddy just ordered a Toytec Ultimate lift kit a week ago and got it in 2 days. They literally just came off back order like a week and a half ago and their website doesn't say the little *BACKORDER* thing anymore so order from Toytec.

2) 285's should fit on a 2.5'' lift. They fit perfect fine w/ a little room on 3'' lifts on all my buddies who have them. You may have a little rubbing since you're going with a 2.5'' but if you'd rather be safe then sorry just go all out with the 3''. Not really a price difference there and you WON'T regret it! The bilstein 5125 can be adjusted all the way to 3.5'' in the rear max.

**I know what you mean about sifting through stuff on this site! ha there's almost too much info to go through to find exactly what you're looking for but it's all very helpful! What was the exact set up you were going for? (Front/Rear shocks/coils)

Ok maybe I wasn't clear. The shocks I'm waiting to order are these:
Front Bilstein Height adjustable front 5100 shocks - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits
They have been on backorder since the end of July, right as soon as I was ready to buy them. Same goes for everywhere else I've been able to find them.

They have 3 preload settings, stock, 1" and 2.5" I believe. I have a 2WD so this is mainly for looks and better ride, and I need new tires anyways. I probably would just leave leave the rear stock.

your friend must have a 4th gen, fj, or 05 up tacoma because the coilovers for the 3rd gen, 1st gen taco, and 1st gen tundra are still out of stock

the 5125's in the rear are not height adjustable. all of your lift comes from replacing the springs. the shocks can support 3.5 inches of lift but they do not have any influence on the ride height

For what its worth -

I was looking into the 5100's when I had my Frontier and was told that anything higher than 1" and the ride starts to suffer. I was advised the best combo was a set of Bilsteins at 1" and a 1.5" TO spacer.
