Bilstein 5100 fronts set at 2.5....anyone?

I actually disagree. When you lift that high don’t you have to remove the front sway bar? I did at least. I have 5100 all around front set at 2.5 on stock springs. Ome 895e in the rear. The stiffer spring rate in the rear and pre loaded springs up front compensate for no sway bar in my case. If you change your front spring to an 885 I think setting at 2.5 would put WAY to much pre load. You won’t get a good ride out of it I think. I also have the v8 so I’m giving you first hand experience

Not sure about removing the sway bar. They make a relocation kit to drop it though if need be (if it’s too close to the coils). I would be concerned with body roll without it. Not having a sway bar is good for off-roading for the added flex but not for highway driving. Discos offer the best for both, have em when you need em, disconnect when you don’t.

I think he was talking about setting at 2.5 with (sagging) stock springs, which would be okay, but probably stiff. 2.5 with 885s would be terrible and too much lift.

No CV axles in the rear, it’s a solid rear. I would set the billies at 1.75 to give you some lift and be done with the spacers. You will need to redo it with new coils so I guess it doesn’t really matter either way. Just do what works best for you and your budget and to get new coils.

Haha Right! I went back and edited it a little earlier after coming back to check for a response, realized I worded it as if the rear had them to, just was curious if there was something to keep an eye out for in the rear too, still learning a lot of this! I think I’m gonna wait on the 5100’s till summer so I can just do the coils at the same time! Thanks for the responses!

Your right. I couldn’t remember if is was necessary to remove the sway bar. I was just giving my .02 lol. When I installed my lift I set the bilsteins at 2.5 and removed the sway bar and drove around the block before I put the rear coils in. it honestly drove like a boat haha. Lots of body roll on stock rear coils. After I added the springs in the rear I felt it stiffen up to where the ride is still softer than most I will admit but I don’t feel the body roll that bad. Mainly on taking sharp turns too quick haha.

I didn't have any sway bar issues with the 5100s, nor did I see a benefit to removing it with that setup. Maybe it was the FJ springs, but the ride for me with the Bilsteins was jerky and not very smooth. It was better than the stock setup for sure, but the Icons were a huge improvement. I'm on my 4th iteration of suspension setup now and I think I've finally got it dialed in.

This is the best option. I have FJ coils at 1.75 and it rides great, but longer coils like OME 2887 would be better because they give you more travel for off roading and good ride quality as you can set the 5100s at the 0 perch. I think they are 15.75” and 590 lb/in. They would give you 2.5” of lift with the coils alone (on a V8).

Funny thing is, I just replaced the sway bar bushings with poly and the end links and it’s a way stiffer ride now. More of a ride quality change than when I replaced the coils and struts.

You have pics of your 4runner on this setup?

I had the exact same set up and was very disappointed with the results. Professionally installed the ride got significantly worse, the steering accuracy suffered and it pushes the UCAs to the their height limit. My front wheels would not stay on the ground after hitting a bump. I have since removed the rear spacers and lowered the fronts to factory height and am going to replace the whole system with an ICON Stage 2 kit.

Which setup did you have? There’s been a few discussed.

Sorry, I have 5100 adjustables on the front and rear, and had spacers on the rear.
I took out the spacers and lowered the shocks to default t4r height.

Did you have to use sway bar relocation brackets? I’m currently considering putting it back on

I Have spent a couple of hours searching for possible issues with using the 2.5 settings and Daystar rear 1.5" spacers with absolutely NO LUCK!
HELP FELLAS! Lol

This is definitely an acceptable setup for the average occasional off-roader or daily driver. I've had it for over a year with no issues. I don't find the ride to be overly stiff at all. I helped a friend with a 4.0 4th gen do the same lift and he is happy as well. Stock UCAs. Got around 2.5 degrees of caster. Drives like I would expect a ~$360 lift to, maybe even better. The only change I made a few months ago was replacing the rear springs/spacer with Toytec Superflexes. Only reason I did that was because I had some extra cash and wanted to improve rear flex off-road and sagging when I have my camping gear loaded in the back.

It really comes down to what your budget is and what your intended use is. If you are planning on wheeling hard and often, then you should spend some more money on a better lift. For those in between and on a budget, this works well, IMHO.
