Bilstein 5100 question

Hello all, first post.

I have a stock 1998 limited i just bought with almost 220k miles, i believe the shocks and struts are stock and would love to put bilstein 5100s on. Which ones soecifically should i get, and where is the cheapest place to buy them?

There is no 5100 made for our truck. There for people buy shocks for Tacoma, tundra or fj cruiser. This for for bilstein 5100

For rear 5100, it's fj cruiser # 33-187174
for front tundra 5100 it's, # 24-188265

First gen fj cruiser for fear, first gen tundra for front. You can also use Tacoma 5100 front shocks. But there is OME shocks , icon, king, fox.... Icon, king, fox are expensive for front set up. Toytec sells fox for the rear at good price. Think it was $250. If you get 5100 in rear you'll need to or people recommend extended SS bump stops and extended brake line. Or bend the rear brake line tab. Also 5100 are recommend with toytec superflex rear coils.

As for prices, on shocks eBay and amazon for me are.cheapest. I got my front and rear 5100 of amazon for total about $360-380 as for coils, well it's same.price on amazon or eBay or of the distributor.

Thank you for your quick post. Im doing the 5100s for the.lift as well. Is it ok to mix say 5100 front and fox or othrr brand rear? Hownwpuld that work with a lift. Thank you

I think it is. I don't see anything wrong with that. If you get tundra 5100 for front. It has 5 perch settings. People run these shocks with toytec eibach coils. Some run them on 1 perch and some run it on 2nd. I tell you from expierence, and having tundra 5100 with eibachs. That it is perctly fine to run it on 2nd perch. If you want more rake then run it on 1perch(bottom, lowest) but the perch will really depend on how tall your real coils will be and how much rake you want. I would not run 5100 on any perch but 1 or 2. Also, different vechicles will vary on how much actual lift you get. So what one person got maybe different then what someone else has.

Also recommend front diff drop. Also be prepared to have ripped CV AXLE BOOTS. Another reason to invest money on extended Cv boots or do the cv boot mod.

About rear shocks being different company. I don't see a problem , just make sure that whatever rear coils you wanna get, will be ok with the shock. As some coils maybe to tall and strech the shock to much.

Coilover is nice in front , you can adjust the height and driver side lean while everything is on the car.

Depending on what type of driving youll be doing, you might want to go with the Tacoma 5100s as opposed to the Tundra 5100s. The Tacoma front end is basically identical to our 3rd gen 4runners in suspension geometry and weight. The Tundra is obviously a heavier truck, and so the valving is designed for the stiffer coil the tundra uses. Im running the Tacoma 5100s on the middle ring with 99 coils right now, and like them very much. The Tacoma 5100 has 3 settings while the tundra has 5, so you do get more adjustability with the tundra shock. I know a lot of members here go with the tundra 5100s and also like them, but they will certainly be stiffer for on road manners, unless you are planning to add weight to the front end. Heres a good price on the Tacoma 5100s in case you do decide to go with them
