Bilstein 5100 questions

Has anyone had issues with the dust boot on the rears coming off like shown below?? I cannot get the boot to stay on the body of the shock no matter how well I zip tie it. Only one has the issue, the other side is fine.

Ok, ok, ok. I've done the research and I found what I want....The lovely Bilstein 5100 for front and rears.

I've done searches on this and I think I understand but I want to be 100% before I purchase in the next month.

For the front shocks, It allows for 4 settings that can be cranked like a coilover, correct? Setting 1= Stock, setting 2=1 inch lift, setting 3= 2 inch, setting 4=2.5 inch. So basically I can rock my stock springs, throw the 5100 on setting 3 and that will raise my height...2 inches. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Now on to the rears. Those do not allow for height adjustment and I would need either aftermarket springs or a lift spacer. Yes, no, maybe so?

So if I wanted a mild lift/level set up I would get the bilstein 5100, front on setting 3 (w/ stock springs) and put the rear 5100's in with a 1 inch lift spacer.

I just want to be 100% sure I know what I'm getting when I order this kit.

Thanks for helping a 4R noob out.

I went for 1.75 and 1.5 spacers in the back since we often have the truck loaded up and I didn't mind the stock rake to begin with. If you are mall crawling I would go for the 1 inch spacers

I added 5100’s at 1.75” in front then added SAW 1.5” in the back. Drives great! Bought 5100’s at 4wheel parts for about $95 each.

Mine kept slipping off also. New zip tie did not help. When the boots slipped, the cone/bottom end inverted and reverted with the movement of the wheel, and maybe even jammed up against the shock body sometimes, making ominous noises that made me think something was loose in the suspension. It took me several months to figure out the problem. With hose clamps, the boots now stay in place and no more noise. I pulled the boot about half way up the neutral riding length of the shock, and made sure that the boot was not overextended when the wheel dropped all the way down.

Interesting, I have a noise I'm currently searching for, maybe that is it as well! I'll do the hose clamp this weekend. Thanks for the input.

Apologies in advance for the noob type clarification.....

5100 upfront at .85 will get me a bit more level, but will it also stiffen up the front end?

I'm looking for a more leveled look and to ease the nose dive a bit.

Just want to clarify that I'm understanding everything correctly.

Thanks!

Yes. That should achieve your goal perfectly.

While we are on the subject,
I thinking of doing the same thing but putting 10% heavier springs (Super flex) on the rear.
Anyone see any conflict with this set up?

Yep, indeed it will...it will stiffen everything a bit... I lowered my BFGs back to 34/35 lbs and this helped allot (had em at almost 40)...too choppy

Here is my old Limited with 5100's all around and a rear spacer. Front was cranked up to 2.5" and rear spacer was the daystar 1".

I got Bilstein 5100s and daystar 1.5" rear spacers installed. After looking at other people's posts, I thought this would level it out. But there still looks like there is a front rake. What's up with this? They said the set the front all the way up at 2.5". So shouldn't it be level?

Yeah your front looks like it is set at 1.75. I had the same setup on my old rig. I had them redo it to 2.5 and made it look much better. I don’t like the factory rake

Did you just have a shop in Kirkland sell your shocks?

dtach & LTDBLKTRD - I live very close to Kirkland, WA. Are there any shops in Seattle area that can sell / install the Billstein 5100's ?

Would a dealer install be an option if I buy the kit ?

Thanks

I’m a solo wrencher not a business but I have the means to install and would for cheaper than most shops then I would go to firestone for their lifetime alignment, as for purchasing amazon has the best deals. I’m located in Arlington. I’m thinking of getting a business started for doing installation & fabrication for people

Yo dude, I did eastside auto service in Kirkland and the manager there is a great guy named Del. He has worked on Toyotas for a long time and did mine. I'd go there.
