Bilstein 5100 / Tundra TRD / OME 890 Review

Hey everyone, finally got around to installing our our lift.

Front:
Bilstein 5100s
TRD Tundra springs

Rear:
Bilstein 5100s
OME 890 springs

We didn't take any measurements but we are really happy with the amount of lift it provided with minimal rake. Just to clear up with issue with people having stiffness / firm issues with the 890s in the rear -- the truck rides like a dream, perfect comfort level, feels like a brand new truck as our old shocks were worn and couldn't absorb bumps at all. Currently the front sway bar is still disconnected as we need longer end links but we are enjoying the flex and ride right now.

We were a bit worried if the tires would look too small as they are the stock size but they actually don't look too bad however we are waiting to take the running boards off until we get a set of 33s as if we do now I think it would make the tires look a bit tiny.

Along with the lift install we also did the front tundra brake upgrade and finally got our 4WD working (if anybody remembers my multiple posts about the issue) -- it ended up being a combination of the rear trannsfer case sensors and the front actuator motor, which we were able to open it up and clean the contacts and get it working again, now 4WD engages within 2-3 seconds.

Looks nice. What size tires do you have on there now? Do you have any spacers or body lift? I'm curious because I've read a bit about people not fitting 33s without and I am struggling with what to do myself. I don't really want as much lift as LC coils would provide, and this might be a good option. Do you intend to run heavy loads and or bumpers/winch with this setup?

The front perch is set to the 2nd one up from the bottom. No spacers or anything.

Stock tires 265/70/16.

I didn't go with the LC's either because of how much rake it would be unless you run the 3rd perch up front, but then thats a little more overall lift than I even want, where it is now I love it.

Did you run them on the lowest perch at all? Just curious as I have mine on the lowest setting with 906's in the rear. Wondering how the ride compares up front.

No I did not, as I knew the 890s would give me 3"~ of lift, running at the lowest would give me too much rake. The ride is extremely comfortable, soaks up bumps perfectly.

I have the same exact setup and love the ride also. There really is no other way to set up the perch in the front to get the right stance. The only thing I'll say is keep an eye on your front CV boots. I can almost guarantee you they will leak one way or another. Mine pulled away from the inner axle. (This with a 1' dif drop) I just put the right size hose clamp on and got it good and tight. Also, lost some caster angle which will cause steering problems if it's too small an angle. Just make sure you get it aligned properly. Just made a 3000 mile trip to Florida and my family of 4 (wife, full grown teenagers) actually complimented the truck on it's compared to the way it was before the lift. They really didn't like the truck when I first bought it.

Yep I've been checking the CV boots often, so far no signs of problems so far, and I do have the diff drop.

We are taking a 4600 mile trip to Montana for 2 weeks, lots of wheeling to be done, we are excited to say the least with how the car came out.

That looks really good, do you have the exactly part # for the Bilstein F/R?

This is what I found BE5-6929-H1 & BE5-A014-H7

Exactly what I'm running up front. Didn't want to run to problems as well. I got the LC coils free so I'm just running them for now. Arb is up the road where I live in WA so not worried if I change my mind

I'm not running the diff drop and it started leaking from the upper boot shaft side on both sides. Fixed it with the hose clamps and no leaky now, even after a wheeling trip recently

I couldn't agree more about the OME890s. Rides like an old caddy and I love it. As far as the front, do you notice a lot of body roll in turns? I have my front sway bar off also, but am running OME881 coils. Wondering if the Tundra coils are stiffer and better at controlling body roll.

Take some hose clamps with you just in case. You might need to clamp over the OEM clamps if you notice any leakage on the trip. Unless it's really bad, then you'll need grease first, then reclamp.

I don't think I can really say just yet as we still have no front sway bars on since we added the lift, with no sway bars we need to take turns pretty slow and yes obviously lots of body roll, I think with the sway bars back on it wouldn't have much roll no.

Thanks for the tip, we will definitely do that.

Oh, you should take your running boards off. They make your truck look like a Dodge Durango :pound:

Yeah we definitely plan on it, I am not sure if I want to take them off with the stock tires still as it may make the tires look REALLY small then...

I don't know if they are stiffer, but I am running the ADDCO swaybars front and back with no body roll. I can take turns like my sons IS300. Lol. I wanted to take them off when I did a wheeling trip last weekend, but was too lazy to take it off. It did well surprisingly.

I plan to install Tundra/906 lift soon with Bilstein shocks all 4 using the lowest perch on the front out of 5. This is on a 99 4Runner Limited. Wondering if you guys recommend putting the front diff drop on or not... Would the Tundra coils on the lowest shock perch really make a big angle on the CV's?

Does not bother me to put it on but wondering if there would be any reason not to with this mild lift?? From what I have heard the diff drop will decrease undercarriage clearance an inch, is that true?
