Bilstein 5100's

My 99 limited with tall springs needs shocks soon, I've heard 5100's are a good upgrade, but what is required? Do I just bolt them up in place of the stockers or is there modifications involved?

Also, what is the best option for the rear shocks when upgrading?

Yep bro just bolts right in. But if you are going with the 5100 you should go ahead and get the tundra ones. Call wheeler's offload they will treat you right

Oh yeah it's prolly going to be rusted real bad so soak all your bolt and nuts with some pb blaster. You might consider replacing all the mounting hardware.

So with the tundra shocks will that require any mods? And will it result in any lift? I would like to get about an inch up front and back if possible

I am not sure about how mich lift if you are using the stock coils but if you do decide to lift later it will be one less thing to buy.

If your only looking for an inch of lift go with the Tacoma 5100's and you can keep your stock coils.
Stock coils can be run on the tundra shocks but only on the highest perch setting (the tundras have 5 settings and the Tacoma's have 3). People typically run the tundra shocks paired with tundra trd coils.

Not to be offensive but almost everything that can be said about 3rd gen lifts has already been covered on this site, some searching using the method stickyed at the top of the 3rd gen page will go a long way in answering your questions.

Yea I have skimmed the 3rd gen lift threads a little, I see mostly stuff about OME springs, daystar spacers, and tundra/lc lifts. Basically all stuff that's a little more than what I want. I just want to upgrade my shocks and possibly get a little altitude adjustment at the same time.

So the way I figure is stock tall springs with Tacoma 5100's and possibly just a spacer in the back with stock replacement bilstein 4600's in the back will give me the improved ride of new shocks that I need and a little bump in height. What do y'all think?

And what's wrong with the heavy Chevy haha

I have a '97 Limited with stock springs and trashed shocks from towing a boat and sled trailer for the last 2 years. I decided to go with brand new '99 talls and 4600 Billies all around and will be installing in the next couple of weeks. I'll post before and after specs/pics when I do it which might help you make a few decisions.

I went with the 4600s over the 5100s because I want to stay as close to stock as possible but I like the adjustability of the 5100s... I'll let you know how the rear rides with 4600s and '99 talls.

Yea man definitely post up some pics when you can. I'm moving to indianapolis this week and the roads there are way worse than where I live now so I really want that shock upgrade, even if I don't get any lift I've heard the 5100's ride and handle loads better.

Did most '99s come with the "tall" springs? Trying to figure out if my '99 Limited has them...

The paint marks on the springs will tell you, if my memory serves me you should see blue and yellow on front right pink and yellow on front left and red and yellow on both rears. Mine sits around 35" from pavement to the peak of the wheel well front and back and is totally stock just to give you an idea
