Bilstein 6112s just to level it out - for now

I was planning on purchasing the 6112/5160/spring/UCA combo to provide a little lift to my 4Runner, but an unexpected house expense kicked that idea to the curb for now.

As a result, I am looking at the 6112s just to bring the front up for leveling purposes and a bit more ground clearance. From what I have read, will need to bring the front up 1.5" - 2" to level it out or still have a very slight rake.

Are the 6112s by themselves still a good match for the rest of the stock suspension?

Just get 6112s + 5150. Stock rear spring will work fine. Thats how TRD Pro's are set up. I would not go 6112 with stock rear shocks though. 6112's are going to be a big step up from stock fronts and you'll need something good in the rear to balance things out.

If you're really looking to save money, why not just go with the 5100s all around? IMO the 6112s would be way overkill if you're not replacing the rear shocks/springs. The frame/rockers will be level at about 0.5-1" of leveling. 2" is pretty close to leveling the fenders, but I personally think it looks squatty like that.

At some point in the future, I am hoping to swap out the rear spring/shocks, UCA, and bump the front up even more. The 6112s were just the first stage.

Makes sense. In that case, I'd definitely spend the extra $100 now and get at least 5100s for the rear to pair with the 6112s. At least you'd have digressive valved shocks on all 4 corners.

Others have run the 6112s with stock rear and they hated it. Here is a quote from MATTYDIRT from another 6112 thread...

"...the truck's ass end felt really squishy and un-balanced without the 5160's installed. I was not initially impressed with the 6112 and factory rear shock/spring. The ride height change was barely noticeable and I wasn't really feeling how the ass end sagged with any kind of weight.
......
Next, installed the 5160's. What a difference in ride quality. Finally a balanced suspension. As documented, a minimal to no change in ride height."

I put the 6112's on front set at 2" of lift and drove around for a day like that. The front felt fine but then the back felt jittery with the stock suspension. Once I put the bumper/winch on, it brought the truck down to 1" of lift. Right where I wanted it. It felt better but it also improved when I put the fox 2.0's on back with stock springs. I did that cause 5160's are in hold by Bilstein till feb from what Total Automotive performance told me.
