does anyone know what changes did bilstein make to the shocks for the H1 compared to the H0?
I noticed that the weld at the failed point is not all-around. Was the weld on the H0 all-around?

i know its been a few years but how those holding up? Thinking about running the 1.2a in my 99 here soon. Im new to the forum and trying to get up to speed with pros/cons of a couple different lifts i have in mind. definitely leaning towards this lift over toytec kits.

Crazy! I'm probably about to have the same thing happen on my Tundra 5100's. I have a crack at the weld in the same spot that is now leaking quite a bit. I can actually see the crack if I wipe the oil off. From what I've heard, Bilstein is kind of worthless on their warranty unless you go back to the vendor you purchased them from. I've heard all kinds of stories on how they won't warranty a broken shock for whatever excuse they can come up with. I can get a decent deal on Bilsteins but will probably be going with Fox when I replace these with coilovers next year just for this reason. I may try contacting bilstein just to see if they will warranty it, then decide about which CO's I go with from there.

Who did you purchase them through?
I have had no problem replacing broken 5100s under warranty through Sonoran Steel. As mentioned Steve's customer service is top notch.
I've broken two 5100s and am looking at the new 6112s or going the King/Fox coilover route.

I purchased them through TRU Motorsports on Amazon. I just contacted them to see if they are willing to warranty them. We'll see...
I wouldn't say a recall. I'd say more have good experience with 5100 including. Me. But that does suck to OP. Hopefully they will warranty it.

I have seen this failure more times then I can count, experienced it several times myself. I have had stems bend, and snap, bases break(like this), I have had rods completely pull out of the "eye", snap rings bend and drop the collar, and seals blow... All of those things I have personally had happen to me with Bilstein 4600 and 5100s, I have had enough Bilstein failures to never get them another dime. Their lifetime warranty is a complete load of BS. I'm sure Steve at Sonoran Steel is just eating the cost and giving you a new shock out of pocket. As Bilstein will not work with customer(individuals or shops/dealers). Their warranties are void if the vehicle is ever driven off road, or is modified from its original state. Yes even though these shocks are designed to work on a lifted truck application. I have spent enough money on Bilsteins to have a set of icon 2.5 COs... Never again...

I had the same issue. One of the rear shock snapped from the top stud!
Any Bilstein made for TOYOTA with the Toyota printed works perfect. Never seen one of those failing.
This is the difference between DENSO or any other brand as aftermarket vs the same brand with TOYOTA logo on it.

Wow! Is this is during regular off roading? How is the LCA (OEM)? Damaged?
When I saw this design, I always suspected on how such a body weight rests on this narrow metal bar. Now it makes sense. Have we see any 3rd gen or taco with the same suspension as a 3rd gen having broken Toyota struts?

There was a bad production run in 2012. All of the shocks from that run failed and have been replaced. The runs after the bad one have all been good and the runs before it were fine.
There have been some other issues arise that have never shown up on these forums and they were resolved in the latest 2016 run.
The Tundra 5100 shock is fine. The Tacoma 5100 is junk, beyond junk.

The spacers lift caused that because when they lowered the top mounting point they did not raise the bump stops. This explains it in great detail.

Just curious, why do you say the Tacoma 5100 is junk? Whats the big difference?

More than I have time to go into, but the valving is way off and way too soft. Like a big rubber band going down the road.

Normal driving conditions. Bump in the road and collapsed. Everyone keeps saying oh it's because of the spacer... No. I didn't come anywhere close to bottoming out the suspension everything else in the suspension was fine. And I drove it home and around for a couple days like that till I could get the new struts on. I went with Ironman Foam Cell Pros. It's a fully adjustable 2.5" coilover. Rides as nice as Icon or Radflo ect but like half the cost.

May we know the Ironman part number that you used? Does it include the coil springs? If not, which coil springs are you using?
