Bilstein HD Order HELP!!!

UPDATE:
So, For any 2wders out there. There are no differences between shocks designated for 4wd vs 2wd--atleast as far as mounting goes.

So I bought 99 tall springs and Billsteins for all 4 corners and have now installed them. The difference was night and day. So...PICS!

New Stance

I was so excited to get the new stuff on that I forgot to take old meaurements. As of now I have a little negative rake which I was somewhat expecting from BFAD's build thread. I'm hoping it settles to level after a while or I'll be adding some spacers to the rear.

The hub to fender is about 21.5" in the rear and about 23" in the front.
So, that was my experience. And i'll go ahead and beat that dead horse and say that the rear upper shock mounts has to be the worst design aspect of our 4runners, or atleast top 5.(PRE 99 CUPHOLDERS!!!!! GRRRR!!!)

Parting thoughts.
I really love the new ride and the height, but to be honest I really liked how well my tires filled out my wheel wells before all this. BUT, totally worth it. Also, I highly recommend AJUSA.com for all your shock needs. They had the best prices and were very pleasant to deal with. (This is for you Chas Moore)
I made some mistakes on my order and they were very easy to contact and resolved my problem for me in a timely manner. Great folks, plus they surf this forum.


Original post: ok, so i just f**ked myself i think. I just ordered 4 bilstein HDs to match up with 99 talls. The thing is I ordered 4 of these:

Monotube Shock Absorber
Part #: BIL 24-187244
For: 1999 TOYOTA 4RUNNER (SR5; 4WD); B6 Heavy Duty (HD); Front

they say they match up to the front, i cant find anything about the rear. will these fit on the rear too? or did i just order the wrong parts?

any help would be greatly appreciated so i can try to fix this before they ship them out, thanks.

and whats the difference between 2wd as compared to 4wd when it comes to shocks mounting? is it just valving? or is there some mounting difference?
 
No. The front and rear suspension bilsteins are very different. You need to get shocks designated for the front and different ones for the rear.

i ordered from ajusa and they dont specify different shocks for the rear, any chance you have bought bilsteins and have the correct part numbers for me?

I see in BIGFISHALLDAY's build thread for his 97, he has different shocks for front and rear but i can't figure out the part numbers.

also, AJUSA has no listings for the rear shocks...
 
Not sure what the difference between 2wd and 4wd.

I would just go with bilstiens from toytec. You'll end up getting the right shocks for sure. The ones I got from them for the rears came with mounting hardware that makes easier to replace the shock if you ever have to again. I might be a little more but eye to eye hardware is worth it.

Check out rickashays ome vs trd tundra lc review for some part numbers. Not sure if they'll work.
 
thanks riggity. I appreciate your help. I think i may have figured out part numbers on AJUSA. They claim that they come with all the bushings and mounting hardware, too. I didn't even think about ordering through toytec. I got to excited about new shocks and springs and started making mistakes.

Anyone else no if there is any mounting differences between RWD and 4WD?

Bilstein HD Shock
 
These are the shocks that I used a few years ago. I ran them on my TRD coil/890,891 lift for years. The rears did limit the rear droop some on a 3" lift.

Shocks: Front, Bilstein F4-BE5-2450-HO. Rear, Bilstein F4-BE5-2451-HO. (Yellow Body and Blue Boot)

Same ones I posted for the rear. Bilstein for whatever reason changed the part numbers but they're the same shocks.

You were able to use 4Runner Billies with Tundra TRD coils? Interesting. I've been thinking about the Tundra TRD coils but my Billies are brand new so I was holding off.
 
I bought the Bilstein F4-BE5-2450-HO new when I mounted my TRD coils. And yes they worked great without any issues. My ToyTec coilovers are built on a new pair of the Bilstein F4-BE5-2450-HO too.

what the difference in the front for 2wheel vs 4wheel?

I just ordered new 99 talll springs for a 99 4wd and then i ordered billies for all 4 corners. (Thanks for all the help with figuring out the part numbers everybody)

Were these a good choice for a 2wd runner? I didnt't think there was any real difference in 4wd vs 2wd as far as suspension componets go. Was i wrong?
 
I believe the mounts are different between the 2WD and 4WD. But yes, I think the '99 tall coils and Bilsteins will be a nice addition to your 4Runner.
 
I know i'm kind of beating a dead horse, but i cant figure out the difference between 24-188234(Front 2wd) and 24-187244(Front 4wd). They look exactly the same, and all the specs listed on AJUSA.com are the same. I don't know if they just valve them differently for 4WD for the added weight of a differential and what not or if the mounts are in fact different and the spec sheet is wrong...so confused.

I guess I'll just cancel my order and order the ones the say are meant for a 2WD, I don't think I have the budget to be a guinea pig on this one.(although i think I would want stiffer valving if thats the difference)

I guess since I was adding coils intended for a 4wd I was thinking that the shocks should be intended for a 4WD also.

Is this the same mounts as all your 4WD guys?

Give the guys at ToyTec a call and ask them. I know you didn't buy from them but they are great guys and will help. Maybe sometime in the future you will be buying from them anyway.
 
yeah, I think i will give the guys at toytec a call. I just got off the phone with Chaz at AJUSA(sounds like a good guy, pretty helpful---and he apparently posts on our forum) he can't tell any difference between the fronts for the 2wd vs the 4wd either, other then the price and the amount they sell. So, I guess im going to give them a shot and I'll post up my results for future 2wders looking to do something similar. Thanks For All Y'alls Help
