Bilstein TRD Pro suspension kit on sale PTR13-35140

Thanks for the explanation...I guess I'm still not sure what is "best". I do plan on going off road with the setup. I thought I read somewhere that a small 1/2" top plate spacer would be nothing to worry about ...its the larger ones that provide 2-3" of lift that could be a problem. Maybe I'm wrong...not sure.

1/2” would probably be okay. I will say if you’re doing the install yourself you probably have a nice a floor jack which is all you need to assemble the coilovers yourself. The Wheelers Daystar isolator is only $40.

I was going to have the dealer install the suspension lift (I don't have any real tools at the house...not even a decent floor jack).

Cost isn't really the problem...the toytec top plate spacer is only $65. So its that vs the $40 preload coil. If 1/2" top plate spacer is fine, then I would probably go with that. Is it hard to change the bump stops to make sure that the shock doesn't bottom out? (of course, I would have the installer do that)

Would a dealer install this kit on a 4Runner?

The kit came with 2 retainers (metal washers). One was bigger and flatter than the other. From your pics, it looks like you used the bigger one on the top of your shock---is this right? I couldnt find any instructions saying which goes where..

I also used the large flat washer on the top.

Installed the kit today. Had the struts assembled prior with new KYB top hats. Took maybe 2-1/2 hours to do the front, maybe 1-1/2 for the rear. Firms up the ride nicely and absorbs bumps well. Gained maybe an inch up front, looks level. Definately a good upgrade.

Anyone know where I can get the lower L shaped stud or bolt for the lower remote reservoir mount? It’s the one that hooks in the frame. I lost mine in the frame on the passenger side. Still assembled fine and honestly the top bolt seems pretty stout.

Here’s a pic of my driver side stud thingy. You out the plastic retainer on before you insert it. I didn’t do test on the passenger side...

This is how the first part of the remote reservoir bracket mounts.

All done. I’ll take better pics tomorrow. Rides awesome. Wheelers T13 springs put me at about a 1” rake with the front FJ TRD setup with the Wheelers Daystar isolator installed. Loving it. Just waiting on the alignment.

I have a 2011 Trail with KDSS and may be putting an aftermarket bumper on (messed up the stock and it is $1200 to replace) and was advised I should upgrade shocks. Would this kit solve my problem? Anything else I need?I'm a little new to all this so sorry for the question. I just want to make certain I can use this before i purchase.

Yes, these shocks and springs will help. Lift height could be reduced, depending on how much weight you add.

Yes, I installed this kit on a 2016 Trail with KDSS using the no spring compressor method. You can find decent instructional videos on YouTube.

If you’re replacing the shocks but leaving the stock rear springs, you won’t need to touch the rear KDSS.

To install the coilovers, you’ll need to disconnect the front KDSS sway bar.

First, place a jack or other support under the KDSS piston. Then disconnect the front KDSS sway bar at both ends. Slowly lower the KDSS piston and watch the sway bar rotate forward and away from the LCAs. Once you have enough clearance, follow the no spring compressor method to install the coilovers. Some recommend maintaining support under the KDSS piston, others report no issues with allowing the piston to rest at full extension for the relatively short time it takes to swap the coilovers. FWIW, I chose to support the KDSS piston throughout the install.

Once you’ve swapped in the new coilovers, you’re ready to reconnect the front sway bar. I’d suggest enlisting the help of a friend as an extra pair of hands makes it much easier. Start by compressing the KDSS piston until the sway bar rotates back into position (be ready to fight the KDSS piston a bit as it has a tendency to push the jack toward the front of the truck). I found it easier to line up the driver side first; you can use tie-down straps or adjustable clamps to help align the sway bar and LCA tabs. Once the driver side is aligned, carefully thread the bolts, leaving about 1/8-1/4” play. Take your time on this and be careful not to cross thread the bolts. Now align and bolt the passenger side. Then go back and tighten driver side to spec.

If you need more details, do a quick search for KDSS threads on this forum. There are some great write-ups on disconnecting/reconnecting KDSS complete with pics.

Good luck and have fun. [emoji16]

Couldn't you just loosen the shutter valve bolts to relax the sytem?

From https://trail4runner.com/2017/09/15/icon-stage-2-lift-install-5th-gen-4runner/

Step #1: Hoist vehicle, and allow wheels to hang freely.
Step #2: Locate the KDSS accumulator assembly positioned under the vehicle, just beside left chassis rail.
Step #3: Remove steel protective shield.
Step #4: Locate shutter valve bolts on side of accumulator. Unscrew shutter valve bolts 1.5 – 2.5 turns MAXIMUM. DO NOT REMOVE SHUTTER VALVE BOLTS OR UNSCREW ANY FURTHER THAN THAN ADVISED.
Step #5: The KDSS shutter valves are now open, allowing full movement of front and rear anti-roll bars. It is now safe to remove and install suspension components. DO NOT START OR OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH SHUTTER VALVES OPEN.
Step #6: When suspension works are complete, lower vehicle onto level ground, then close BOTH shutter valve bolts fully by turning clockwise and tightening. Reinstall protective shield.

FJ TRD kit with Wheelers Daystar coil isolator in the front and Wheelers T13 springs in the rear. Rake is perfect. Gained 2” front, about 1.5” rear.

How does the ride compare to stock?

I’ll preface this to say I prefer a firm, controlled ride. My truck only has 7800 miles on it so it’s still basically new. It was soft with lots of body roll and nose dive. This kit fixed that in a big way. The truck feels planted now with little body roll. Nose dive is mostly gone. It’s firm without being harsh. The ride is still comfortable but now it corners good. The T13 coils are a good match.

When I get a bumper and winch I’ll probably install a 700lb coil.

So I'm installing my first front shock and I've run into an issue that maybe someone can help me out with.

From the Toyota install insturctions I'm on 2.e
"(e) Push down on the steering knuckle so that it
aligns with the lower ball joint assembly.
(f) Use a 19mm socket to install and torque the
front lower ball joint attachment with the two
bolts (Fig. 2-4)."

The problem is, the steering knuckle is about 2 inches away from the lower ball joint attachement, no matter how I twist them about.

Any ideas on how to get these holes aligned?

FJ kit for sale

So I tried buying this kit for the Tacoma and read a bunch of stuff on it thinking it might work after reading this forum. So im selling the kit open box, did not attempt to install. Does anyone in orange county, CA area want to buy the kit for $600 OBO?

Ignore the mess in the garage, it started raining on me half way through. Installed the kit plus OME 895 rear springs, and a cornfed 1" leveling spacer in addition to the 1" Toytec TRD preload spacer, and some SPC UCAs. Install wasnt bad, but damn tiring. I forgot to take original measurements, but after came to. 22.75" front and a little more than 23.75" rear, measured from the center of the hub to the fender.

I love it. I was afraid the front was going to be too high, but there's a perfect slight rake still.

Edit: I moved both spring perches to the top, and used an OME 10mm spacer on driver side rear.

How's the rear height? How much weight do you have back there? I've also got the OME 895 rear coils (waiting to install) and don't want the rear to be too high.

Care to give a fellow kdss owner some inout on where i should leave the clips? I will be running wheelers isolator up front and eibach pro lift rear springs. Not sure if i should install both on bottom or both on top or passenger side on top for kdss lean? I would prefer a minimal rake

Kdss guys please free to chime in!
