You can re-use factory top hat or order new. I think most people are ordering the KYB from either Amazon or Rock Auto. RA has the better deal and you can find a 5% off coupon pretty easily (hint: tacomaworld.com).

Personally, I would change them regardless of miles on the OEM ones.

Locally there are a few in stock at around $575 or so plus a $25 coupon. I've skimmed through about 40 pages of this and it seems to be a nice purchase. Better quality ride? Its a direct bolt on, no other parts needed? Any other input would be appreciated, thanks

I'd like to keep a little front rake and also keep the lift low enough to avoid UCA's, diff drops etc. since its my DD. This will be my first time into the 4R5's suspension and I'm trying to figure out the difference (advantages vs disadvantages) of the two Daystar 1.25" spacer options on Wheeler's site

Daystar front preload spacer (TA3273) mounts under the cap & compresses the springs where it sounds like the 1.25" top spacer (KT09105-4R)-does not. Anyone have opinions on which way to go?

Here’s what I installed on my kit. Sitting at 2.5in lift. Rides exactly how I like, should’ve came like this stock. No body roll, minimum nose dive. No kdss, kept the ring setting positioning how they were shipped to me. Used old top hats using spring compressor (rented from local auto shop). Easy to do yourself install if you have basic knowledge of vehicle parts (YouTube) is a big help. Took about 6hrs.

Mines getting installed right now.... found a great local shop that normally works on Nissan and Infinity but the owner has a Tacoma and 4Runner so he knows the suspension well.

Will make sure to post some pictures, mine is just the TRD kit, no spacers or anything else on it right now

Placed an order this morning. I was on the fence about buying this but for the price it’s really hard to beat . I do like the stock height so would like to keep it close to that, hopefully it’ll provide a better ride . Should be a decent weekend project, straight bolt on?

What did you use for the rear? It look to me as you would have a reverse rake with nothing done (except the shocks) in the rear...

Completely forgot to mention the rear. I had previously installed the Daystar 1.5” rear spacers. Works for now with zero complaints. In the future I’ll switch it and either go with the Wheelers T13 coils or the Dobinson coils. The combination of the new kit and Daystars made a huge difference. The stock shocks and Daystars were rough. I was going to remove them during install and get the new coils but I thought I’d give them another shot. Glad I did.

Yes it's straight bolt on, but I'll forewarn you, it's a lot easier with an extra set of hands. Prying down the lower control arm while manhandling the strut into place is a bear. Also, the fasteners on these vehicles from the factory corrode really quickly, meaning I broke a weld inside the frame on one of the swaybar nuts and had to get creative to fix it. Dig up my thread from last week to see how.

You're gonna end up with A LOT of forward rake with no spacer in the front if you go with the T13 coils in the back. Look at my post on page 71 of this thread to see my setup. I debated going with a 1/2" top plate spacer for the front (it's sitting in my garage) instead of the preload spacer to keep the ride from being too firm, but it turned out perfect. If you end up wanting spacers in the front, DM me and I'll sell my unused set to you for less than I bought them.
