Bilstein TRD Pro suspension kit on sale PTR13-35140

Finally, I installed the kit and gave a good workout at a near national forest service road.

Setup: TRD Pro FJ suspension kit + Toytec 1” lift front shock lower perch + Dobinson CP59-505R (1.25-1.5” lift) for rear

Installation: i almost gave up the installation after cursing at myself for not working out enough to bench press 600lb. After wrestling with spring compressor for 2hr, i remember seeing “no spring compressor” method here somewhere. Man.. that was my life saver. Anywayz, took me about 8hr total.

Alignment: i was able to squeeze out only 1.6* (driver) and 1.3* (passenger) castor for the front which are both below factory min spec. (See my onroad comment below)

The Lift: Unfortunately, I did not have any tape measure so I used the finger measurements instead and converted those to inch. So these aint precise but rather relative measures.

Front: 1.5-1.7”
Rear: 1.6-1.8”

Fronts are slightly lower than expected, rear are slightly higher than expected. Also both have slight driver side lean carryover. Despite these, i feel like headlights go out further than before... perhaps this could be pure placebo effect.

The Ride - Onroad: I can definitely tell the extra height when i turn but the car remains composed - probably due to stiffer/firmer shocks/speing combo, and there is slightly less rocking back and forth during accleration/decelleration as well. HOWEVER, I definitely lost the highway speed stability. With much smaller castor along with raised center of gravity, I feel like the car lost good amt of wind stability and steering wheel became lighter too.

The Ride - Offroad: More available travel appear to soak up small and big bumps much more efficiently. I never felt i bottomed out my shocks. Also higher ride height gave additional comfort level when i water-cross. However, ride feels little more harsher than before. The rougher ride quality could be attributable to KO2 not so much on the new suspension set up. This was my first time taking KO2 to some decent offroad trails.

I will come back and provide more update after putting more miles. So do i regret? Nope. This is a truck so I am willing to accept the trade offs for higher offroad capability.

Do you have a photo? Also you're saying it's out of spec with the alignment? Should I get some UCA's while I'm at it? I am trying to go to this setup and thought there'd me more in the front. I'm starting to think that I should get front springs.

He posted a few up above.

So you still had the driver side lean before installing this kit?

I've never experienced this because I'm still on the Limited's OEM suspension (presumably because of the X-REAS) and it's one of my concerns, since I don't want to be driving around feeling lopsided. I'm not adding additional spacers, etc. so you think I'll experience the driver side lean with this kit?

If you have $$$, i would say go for it. In my cost vs. benefit analysis, I decided to stick with OEM. So far, no regret with my choice. Just don't go crazy with front, you should be fine. I think my sub-2" lift is relatively mild set up for OEM UCA.

Yes, there was about ~0.2-0.3" driver-side lean with OEM set up (again, no tape measure for accurate measurement). Since my TRDOR does not have KDSS nor XREAS, i'm not too familiar with them. Also, my butt-level cannot tell the 1/4" lean, so i'm not worried much on the lean.

I appreciate the feedback, can I bother you for a wide angle shot of the 4runner?

Andi-T4R With your comment about the 505's being taller than expected, if you were to do it again, would you go with the 599 - 1" spring in the rear instead of the 505 - 1.5"? Ill be running Dobby's 1" lift spring in front and am trying to figure out what will be best to pair it with in the rear.

Update. I ordered mine on Feb 17th from Bristol Toyota. Shipped today without a VIN so some are being shipped its just hit or miss.

TRD kit Ordered from Olathe last week, gets delivered tomorrow.

Also just got off the phone with Kelly at Wheelers, said they just got T13 springs back in stock yesterday. Ordered a set of those as well.

I’ve got the beer, anyone near Dallas wanna have an install day soon?
