Bilstein TRD Pro suspension kit on sale PTR13-35140

Gents, help me understand what kind of lift I can expect here.

The coil received with this kit is the TRD PRO FJ Eibach coil. I also purchased the Dobinson's 1" lift coil, compatible with TRD PRO suspension. A photo of the two coils is shown below:

OEM FJ TRD PRO Spring = 14" length
Dobinson's 1" TRD PRO 4Runner Coil = 13-7/8" length

What amount of front lift are people actually seeing with the 14" OEM spring kit as purchased? If the FJ spring is 1" taller than a 4Runner spring, the kit SHOULD give us 2" front lift out of the box, no? As it sits right now, I would not receive any additional lift by installing the Dobinsons spring in lieu of the OEM TRD spring, right?
Dobinsons Mike for support as well.

Thanks all,
Matt

For those wondering, got these installed on my Limited. Absolutely love it! The nose dive is almost completely gone and I didn't notice any issues with body roll. It does ride slightly firmer so bumps are a little more noticeable than with X-REAS. I assume this will soften up a bit as the springs begin to settle.

I forgot to do measurements so can't confirm on ride height, but the lift (albeit slight, as expected) is noticeable, both from behind the wheel and from the side. There's still a slight rake, but looks level to me.

I didn't add anything else such as spacers or rear springs, just replaced the OEM parts with this kit and new top hats that were suggested earlier in this thread. I set the driver's side higher than the passenger side as those have mentioned earlier to compensate for the driver's side lean (I have a full tank and didn't notice any lean from before or after the suspension install though).

The Dobinson spring looks thicker and not as many coils, it may not sag as much as the TRD. You may achieve the same height. I think the distance from the spring perch to where the shock mounts to the control arm is shorter on the FJ TRD PRO Bilsteins, compared to the 4Runner Bilsteins. FYI the 4runner springs are 13 inches.

I think Im going to stick with the Dobinson's coil and grab the 1.25" preload spacers from Wheeler's. Should net me 2.25" F and Im running it with the Dobinson's 505 1" rear spring.

The delivered lift will depend on the spring rate of the dobinsons spring. If the dobinsons spring is also a 600lb/in spring, then it will deliver about 1" over stock, about the same as the TRD FJ spring (or slightly less as it is 1/8" shorter than the supplied TRD spring). If it is the same spring rate as the 4Runner TRD Pro (520 or 550lb/in), it will deliver less lift (lower spring rate for an equivalent load). The appearance of coil diameter is meaningless, the spring rate and spring length are the important factors.

We need someone with a 4Runner TRD Pro setup to measure their lower shock eye to spring perch dimension. The FJ kit is 8.0" bolt center to perch, I suspect the 4Runner shock spacing is larger, resulting in a shorter spring.

Yea, I agree. That's really the only viable explanation in that the 4Runner Bilstein Pro setup has a higher perch to accommodate the same 1" lift over stock using a 1" shorter coil.

This is the setup I am going with. Fair warning, the T13 is on a serious backorder. They do not list it on their website. I have been waiting for a month now.

Just as an update, the springs arrived yesterday. I think they are out of the woods.

I have a feeling you are absolutely correct concerning different perch location.
I happen to have a friend’s TRD Pro Tacoma kit PTR13-39150 (same 6112/5160) sitting in my garage....was able to measure center lower shock eye to perch......9 7/8”. I believe the Tacoma kit coils are 600lb 14”. This Tacoma kit is assembled with top hats and the pre-loaded mounted coils measured 11 7/8”. Seems like a lot more pre-load on these Tacoma coils compared to the FJ kit coils. Also, I wonder if there is a lot of difference between the extended shock length of the Tacoma vs FJ vs T4R Pro kits. Look at this link as well. Some of the Tacoma kits were mistakenly shipped with T4r Pro coils mounted which are shorter coils....see link below post #2652 and read on.

This makes me think that the Tacoma Pro kit and T4r Pro kit 6112s might have similar perch locations...and this FJ kit 6112 perch location is lower (less pre-load) compared to the other two.

*Definitely need a T4r Pro 6112 perch measurement.

I can take a measurement tomorrow. I have 2015 TRD Pro 4Runner suspension. Anyone thought about putting the 14" 600 lb. springs on the 4Runner TRD Pro 6112's? Would this net close to 3" of front end lift over a stock SR5 or Trail/Off-Road 4Runner? (2" front lift for a Pro)

I installed the kit on my 2016 Trail KDSS about 2 weeks ago and saw almost exactly 1” front lift (after allowing time for everything to settle and getting an alignment). I gained a negligible amount of lift in the rear.

I‘ll post installation details, before/after ride height measurements, alignment specs, and ride impressions soon. Bottom line is that I’m very pleased with this setup.

I just received this kit yesterday and Ordering the Dobinsons 1" Pro front coil. I want two inches of lift and am worried that the TRD FJ coils being 14 inches and rated at 600lbs is the same as the Dobinsons Pro 1" rated at 586lbs. Just seeing if someone can clarify this.

Scroll up. I posted pics of that exact same issue. Cliff notes is, you will not get an additional 1" lift from the Dobinson's coil as they were designed to work with the 4Runner shock + 13" coil. The FJ's 14" coil is the same height (and 600# rate) as the Dobby 1" 4Runner coil. I made the same mistake. Im going to keep the Dobinson's coil, I think, and I ordered the 1.25" preload spacers for $40 from Wheeler's to get up to about ~2.2" lift in the front.

Hi Guys/Gals,

I am new here. Just picked up my first T4R. Its a 2018 SR5 Prem. I love it and I am pretty interested in this kit. With all the talk of spacers, lifts etc. What do I need to do if I just want to swap this for my stock suspension. Will I need to order any additional hardware to make it work?

Lastly, I do not have the tools or know how. What would you expect to pay a mechanic for installing these? Thank you in advance for your time and patience. I did read through the whole thread but with so many configurations, parts, etc. I was a bit confused. :sorry:

If you're truly just running it out of the box then nothing else is needed and you'll net a 1.0" lift in front and 0.0-0.25" in rear. It's truly bolt on.

I was quoted 640 by an off road shop to install these with new uca. This also included the alignment.

Any luck on the measurements? Inquiring minds want to know!!

Hey there,

I have a 2013 t4r limted with Xreas and it's time for a suspension upgrade to gain some offroad performance, and for the abilty to run rock sliders (Xreas hardlines and pumps run directly along the frame rails and I would need to space out sliders with washers to make it fit, not down for that). Nonetheless I have been looking into a couple cost effective suspension upgrades, namely Bilstein 5100's front and rear, and this TRD PRO FJ kit being discussed. I am looking for close to an inch of lift up front and close to stock ride height in the rear.

From what I have read on the forum the FJ kit works very well, with small modifications sometimes needed to fit. If I were to rip out my Xreas system and install this kit what modifications, if any, will I need to make for it to work properly?
