Bilstein TRD Pro suspension kit on sale PTR13-35140

How would you all say this compares to the Bilstein 5100 + rear spacer set up? Trying to decide between the 2. Bilstein 5100 set up is ~$350 less than this one, with eibach rears.

Wait...most people are getting this between 5 and 575. I paid $500 before shipping for mine. if the Bilstein setup with eibach rears is ~$350 less, you are talking about a replacement setup for ~$150?!?!?

Something is off there. Regular 5100s alone are around $250 from Toytec.

This is for OEM parts, so you know that it meets certain criteria for longevity and performance.

The front shocks are 2.5" body, and the rear shocks have a remote reservoir. The rear shocks alone are $410 if you buy them just by themselves, and that doesn't include the bracket to mount the reservoir to the frame.

You really can't beat this value.

Welp, local dealer called back and said they've been told it's discontinued. Frank Motors on ebay is out of stock now (just had 2 left yesterday I believe). The supply is dwindling quick it seems.

Ordered from Elmhurst Toyota for $665 shipped. Looks like they have about 19-20 left based on the # sold and % sold.

Still an insane deal at $1k off. We'll see how that goes.

EDIT: June 13 2018 above link has ~14 left.

Elmhurst is who I got mine from on eBay, was around the same price, maybe a bit less because I’m closer?

Got my kit 2 days after I ordered it. I jumped when I did because I was worried they’d soon all be gone or people bought a couple and are waiting till there gone to sell them for more than they paid...

Thanks for the info, good to know. I'm a bit further south so that's probably the difference, yeah.

5100's F/R + rear spacer = $470
TRD + eibach rear + front preload spacer = $820

New to a 4R but seeing people are going one way or the other. The TRD seems better but I am just unsure of the differences. I am leaning towards the TRD.

Question- If I install using the stock rear spring for now, no lift or anything, will I have significant rear sag when loaded down? I'm assuming so without a stiffer rear spring as the front will be about level.

I may be wrong here (the Pro doesn't have different rear coils does it?) but this kit will essentially suspension match to the TRD Pro. Depends on the load at the end of the day, but I wouldn't say loading the rear would cause significant (as in bro lean) sag

You're correct. The TRD Pro has the same rear coils as all other 4runner models.

Honestly, I doubt you'd notice a giant difference either way. With the 5100s, you'll have the OEM softer spring rate so it would probably feel more relaxed, but thousands of people have run that kit with positive feedback.

I think the big selling point to most people is that the TRD kit used to be a $1600+ kit. The TRD kit isn't a direct comparison to the 5100s, it's to the 6112+5160 combo.

It's all what you deem as level. Fender height? Frame height? Installing this kit without rear springs will give you a nearly identical stance to the stock TRD Pro.

Seems like the trd setup is noticeably better according to people who have had both, not that the 5100 isn't good. There seems to be some questions over whether the trd 6112s are comparable to the normal 6112s however.

I owned a 2013 and did 5100’s on stock springs, front set at .85”, then did 3/2” Toytec lift springs. Now I have a 2015 TRD Pro, which I just put Dobinsons 1/1.25” lift (stock spring rates). The TRD rides so smooth compared to the 5100 setup. A good friend owns a stock 2016 Trail with ~10k miles and he agrees the TRD suspension ride is fantastic.

Ok, that makes a LOT more sense. You're not really comparing apples to apples though. What is the cost of the 5100s F/R + Eibach rear springs? What about this kit + the rear spacer?

What is your ultimate goal? More ride height? smoother ride?

I think that comes down to what you notice. Kind of like how some people will spend more to get a full 7.2 channel surround sound experience while someone else thinks a soundbar is just as good.

I considered doing a 5100 install when it came time to replace the factory suspension, and there is nothing wrong with 5100s. As stated before, many people on T4R, TacomaWorld, etc. run those and are perfectly happy with the choice.

The front shocks in this kit have a larger body (2.5") which holds more fluid. They should stay cooler during intense use and therefore provide a better ride over the long haul. The rear shocks with this kit have the remote reservoir, which again holds more fluid and allows the fluid in the resi to cool more. Again, smoother ride and greater shock life.

If what you notice is the height, then save some money and get the 5100s. If the height is not your main concern and the ride quality is what you really want, then this kit is the way to go (without sending over a thousand).

Question- If I install using the stock rear spring for now, no lift or anything, will I have significant rear sag when loaded down? I'm assuming so without a stiffer rear spring as the front will be about level.

The rear will sag with load in the same manner as it does before installing the rear shocks. You should get a smoother ride with these shocks, but they will not adjust height or ability to carry weight.

It's also worth mentioning that you can always swap things out later. This kit alone seems to be yielding most people around 1" of lift up front and giving a more level appearance while improving ride quality. You might get this on and decide that is all the modification you want to make.

If you want to add more lift later, you could add the spacers to the front for an additional inch or so. I wouldn't go any higher than that unless you want to start looking at replacing the UCAs as well. For the rear, you could either add a spacer or replace the springs.

...you have options.

So in my completely neurotic "research" and calculations, pouring over hundreds of pics and measurements, I've ordered some 10mm (~0.39") OME spacers for the rear to retain a little rake even with weight in the rear. This is based on looking at Beebs' setup (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...on-kit-sale-ptr13-35140-a-63.html#post2992385), 1.5" rear coils and a 1" spacer up front. My setup should have about the same ratio just about 1" less of a lift. Worst case I can use them to level things out later after upgrading to his exact setup.

Just finished installing my kit. Complete setup is FJ TRD Kit (driver side set on higher clip), Wheelers/Daystar 1.25" front isolators, and Eibach Pro Lift 1" rear springs. I gained exactly 1.1" in the rear and exactly 2" in the front. This allowed me to retain a mild forward rake, which was my goal since I tow a boat frequently. It actually measures 14.75” from the ground to the frame rails in the front and the back, so it’s technically a level ride despite what the fender height might appear. The Eibachs at ~215lbs spring rate also give me about a 10% increase for the rears to help with towing and to complement the front spring rate.QUOTE]

Pls confirm which specific Daystar item you used to be sure?.
Which of these did you use.

Comparison

I purchased this kit through frank motors on eBay and had it installed by my dealer. Didn’t add any additional spacers or springs that other folks have done. Parked by the other 5th gen at my lot at work for a comparison of the front end lift you’ll get with the base kit. Looks about 1” to me but I didn’t measure before / after just thought I’d share the pic. So far so good and def handles a lot better, well worth it for the price.
