Bilstein with OME

So i bought my '98 with Bilsteins already on it (front and back), however, the rear springs had not been replaced and were sagging a couple of inches (and were not covered under the recall). I had a set of coil spacers put on the rear springs which fixed most of the rear sag problem, only leaving about an inch difference. Although the inch difference is barely noticeable, it still bothers me and i have been searching for some new coil springs to replace the stock ones. does anyone know if OME springs combined with my Bilstein shocks will solve this rear sag issue?

also, i cannot get a good angle to look at the part # on the rear Bilsteins so if anyone can tell what model these are that would be very helpful

Those are bilstein HD shocks I have the same ones on my 98 and I called toytec to ask them the same thing the other day and yes they will work fine and solve your sagging problem..hope that helps..btw what size are the rear spacers?2.5 inch? I'm looking for some to buy

My buddy bought a similar vehicle (99' Prado) with new OME suspension on it. He wasn't happy, so I talked him into buying some used Bilstein shocks that he swapped in and he is over the moon with the OME coil/bilstein shock combination.

In reality any aftermarket coil rated for that vehicle swapped in will work, but some combo's will work better. Whilst OME's normally match their coils to their own low pressure twin tubegas shocks (shocks which are not quite the same design as the Bilsteins high pressure mono gas) this combo seems to work.

Just be conscious that there are different OME coils available, some for comfort and standard weight, some for more load bearing or "uprated coils" and some for lift. Before a new coil purchase my thoughts are to understand where the sagging came from - was the coil insufficiently rated in the first instance to support the standard weight ( an underated coil, or you've adding many weighted accessories), or was it defective spring material that didn't retain its near original settings, or the wrong spring design was used like a progressive coil that tapers off or has too wide spacing or thinner material at the end that over compresses too easily resulting in sag.

If you can identifying what the issue was, then you can assess what aftermarket design you are after, and whether you need an uprated coil to deal with your situation.

I had a same SAG/LEAN on the driver's side, only with a 2.5 inch lift and a stiffer ride. Overall, the lift improved the stance of the truck, but didnt solve my driver's side sag/lean.

Now looking for some trim packers.

Have you tried swapping the coils to the opposite sides to see if this corrects the issue. Also a saggy front coil can also make the opposing rear corner stand up more. Take a measurement of each rear corner with a set of even height jack stands under the front chassis.

Bilstein + OME

I installed OME springs and shocks on my 2002 and the stance is good but the ride is a bit harsh. 80k miles later I just ordered Bilstein HD shocks and plan to install with existing OME springs - hope the ride improves. The only other Bilstein option is height-adj and not sure I need that. Comments?

The hds are meant for stock height, the 5100s are made for lifted applications. The 5100s would work much better with lift coils due to their extended length over the hds.

Bilsteins + OME

I also found my old invoice and I have OME 880 front coils with OME N91SC front shock and OME 906 rear coil with OME N86C rear shock. I like the ride height but its a tad harsh and its gotten worse with the larger Hankook RF10's. I ordered Bilstein HD shocks which arrived today - but latest advice says to consider the 5100's. Looking at my ride height can I get away with the HD's?

Since you have ome coils, the 5100s would be a better match. The hds will work, they're just not as long as the 5100s,, so you'll have less down travel. That's the main difference. They're also valved different also, not sure if is enough to really make a difference.

I'm not sure what to do and I need to talk with someone who knows more about tuning 4WD suspension - these guys are not far from me and I'm going to buzz up there and have a chat with them.

I ran those same Bilsteins with OME 906's in my '99, worked great. I have these Bilsteins and '99 tall springs in my '97 Limited now but I'm about to swap the springs out for another set of OME's.

Bilstein + OME

I spoke with the guys at Krazy House during lunch. Just swapping the shocks isn't going to fix my ride. I'm going with Toyotec lift kit (bilstein shocks) and new A-arms - should ride better and steer straighter - will take some measurements and some before/after pics.

PS - saw the monster yellow truck from their gallery in the garage - its Really Big!
