Bilstien 5100s for front, what for the rear?

Borgzman, what's the part # for your fronts? Did you get them new or are they an FJ swap?

The part number is F4-BE5-C475-H0 (5100 Front height Adjustable)
As you can see the FJ Cruiser have the same part #.. refer to this application chart :

and since the 4R and FJs are somewhat same suspension flavor, a member innstalled that F4-BE5-C475-H0 together with the FJ springs and ended up with I think 4 inches of lift, maybe crank up to the 2.5"(actually more) setting plus the lift he gained from the FJC springs :

But of course that is adjustable with min setting of .85 in of front lift which actually gave me 1.25". Maybe with FJ springs, it will end up 1.5-1.75" overall lift

another issue can be asked, "They are suppose to be used with stock springs" well it is the same part number they sell for the FJCs, since 4Rs and FJCs are cousin :naughty: and infact many are interchanging springs..shocks.. so I don't think you will have serious problems, but don't set it to high...a total front lift of 1.5 to 2 inches is ok for a leveler, more.., more than that will end up your CVs spitting grease :biggrin2:

You guys have the Rear Air Suspension,
Is the ordinary factory Tokico Rear Shocks same length as the X-Reas shocks installed in your vehicle ??
What if youll just buy it from partznet, dump those xreas, retain the rear airbag and do whatever you want in the front.

There are several options for the rear. KYB GR2 shocks are a replacement that have the same specs as OEM. They'll work in the rear, and you can use Bilstein 5100's in the front. Some just prefer to have a matching set front/rear, but in all honesty it probably isn't a big deal, just may be more firm on the front or rear.

Here is my situation - 2006 V8 LTD w/XREAS that has too much body roll and nose dive, i.e. it needs better chassis control on the road. I do not want to lift the rear suspension but I would be willing to lift the front approx 1" max. For this reason I think the stock 4Runner springs are my best bet as the FJ springs definately add some lift!

So which Bilstien shocks should I buy? I really like the 5100s for the front but the rear is confusing....5100 or 'yellow' HDs?

The Bilstien 5100's front/rear should be a good setup, even with stock springs. They have a lift setting for I believe .85". You said you have XREAS, which isn't an issue (will have to be removed, but the 5100's will work as a replacement). However, do you also have the rear air suspension? The only one's who need to be really concerned about shock length are those with the factory rear air suspension. If you have it, you'll want a shock similar in length to the OEM. If you don't have it, Bilstien 5100's should suit your needs.

As I said earlier in this post, what I'm saying is based on the research I've done, not personal experience. I would try to stick with shocks similar in length to the OEM. If you don't off road where the suspension fully flexes, you may could get by with the 5100's. IMO, I'd shoot for finding a stock FJ Cruiser suspension (preferrably one from a TRD or Trail Teams because it will have Bilstein shocks). The front springs alone should give ~1/2" of lift. If you'd like a touch more, you can lift either an additional 1/2" or 1" with spacers available from Toytec. I have the 1" spacers on mine and think it's great, very level. There have been several who have done the FJ swap, and I don't think I've heard any negative reviews thus far. When my time comes, this is the route I'll be taking (FJ shocks).
