Looks small.. Shoulda gone with 35s...
Looks great though! What do you think of the new size? Dramatic compared to the others? Any new rub from the extra width?
No rubbing in normal driving. I think it will be fine off-road too and a little less of a risk than 35s. Width was what I was most concerned about since the 35s are 12.5 versus 12.2. These aren't all that much smaller than 35s so I thought it was the "middle ground." I'm sure I will kick myself for not going to 35s, but I have the 80 with 35s if I really need them...

If the trail grapplers were made in 305/70/17 I'd be sold. I'm set on those tires for some reason. And an 80 with 35s is a hell of a compromise! How'd those MT/Rs balance out?

slight vibration at 60 that goes away so I may take back and see if they can be rebalanced. It isn't very bad so it might only be one wheel. They are smoother than the KM2s though. I very nearly went with Trail Grapplers in 285/75/17. Same overall diameter but less width. Good tire though!

I'm surprised you didn't go 315s. Are the 305/70s smaller or bigger then the 285/75s?

On a side note have you trimmed the rear bumper yet? You were right about an inch or so for mine. Probably just going to have a buddy trim it up down here.

That's my only hold up with those, is that I've heard about some of them not balancing well. I know the kind of luck I have. I would get the set that wouldn't ever balance out.

Not yet. Been working on the 80. Replacing radiator, misc. seals etc. so that I can take the 4runner up to Luke and leave it for a couple weeks. I just haven't got it all done yet. Probably by the end of the month I'll be able to take it up to Luke. I decided 35s were just too big a risk for the fenders at full stuff and really would only be getting less than .25" more clearance out of them and have to huff the extra weight around daily (I dd the runner). I think Luke is planning on 1.5" trimmed. He has one he is building right now and that is about how far back he took it for the Toyo 285/85/17s which should be exactly what you have. Yep. Went 305 instead of 315 mostly due to that last .5 width. Wasn't convinced it was worth the risk. Maybe next set! I wanted a little more width than the km2s had. Feels way more sticky to the road.

I think I'm going to go with the 285 75 TOYO.
This is an interesting read on tire selection.... Expeditions West: Tire Selection for Expedition Travel
This particular diagram will raise some eyebrows.
Also, bimrunner, your truck looks great. One thing that I think would make it look even better would be to paint the fender flares black. Maybe just pasti-dip to see if you like it. I think it would be awesome. That is in my eventual plans...

Cool! I actually agree with the write up you posted. I just wanted the MTRs and they don't make that size. Thanks for the suggestion, mine are dipped black as it is. Hard to see in the lighting I took pics in but they are black. I'm planning to lineX them though.
