Bimrunner Build Thread & Pics

I have about .5" of clearance at full stuff and lock but on the trail I always find it to be a little different because of being aired down, off camber and either uphill or downhill. However, surprisingly it looks like after market fenders aren't necessary. Trails will tell the truth!

Techs are hit and miss at Firestone (lifetime alignment) but I have a local shop that does it right and understand (*gasp), cam bolts can be adjusted!!!! I tell them and they say the computer doesn't say to do that... I then take them out to the truck and show them a stock pic and a put the phone next to mine and ask them if they notice anything... Lol. They either say, "ok, what should I do?" Or they stare blankly and say..."we don't do custom." Yesterday was the latter and I just walked out and told the manager they have idiots working for them. I'll get it done right.

Preload was standard from King with a slight half crank adjustment on the passenger side and they are 600lbs. Feels plush but not too soft. They valve for added weight and I think come rebuild time I'll add adjusters to the shocks (it's nice King has it as an add later option since none in stock had them!).

Wow, no compression adjusters on your kings? Slumming it, LOL

Yea, this is sort of what I expected on the springs. 600lb springs are plenty on an LT setup even on a heavily armored rig. It's counterintuitive at first glance, but makes perfect sense once you see the change in motion ratios with the shock mount position change.

The clearance is good news, but like you said... the trail is where things really come to light.

So when is the first trail test.

I really like this setup, but I'm leaning towards TC at the moment. I want to try the heim uppers to clear 35s easier. Pretty sure I'm also probably going to stick with ICON. Don't want to be too much of a copy cat.

Right now the higher end choices would be TC or Camburg. I opted for TC.

By default the King's don't come with adjusters, so we had to specify that even after the fact as King's sales guy kept forgetting to include them at each step.

But I do like you can add them in after the fact. The amount of gussets you have to order when you step up to bypasses is pretty impressive. Weld all the things.

Scheming to get out on a trail in the next month. I have to be careful because he wife is begging for a getaway... And wheeling doesn't count so I have to plan both to get the wheeling trip... Oi.

This photo gets me all rilled up. Makes me re think about going with the LT rear set up. Wonder if FOX will custom make some DSCs spec'd for the Metal Tech LT rear kit.

Can't wait to get my front done!

Talk to Chance. He has the specs to give to Fox to have them made for you so you can run Fox plus the offset links! That's how my Kings are getting made. Spec matched to the Icon. I heard "someone" was a little peeved that we gave the specs to King... Might as well have options though!

Do us all a favor and put it on the flex ramp before he installs... I wish I had done that.

If I was closer, we could have laughed at my truck on the flex ramp

For 2" kits I'm pretty sure it is just TC and AllPro.

I think it is a toss up between the two. AllPro has a larger uniball on the lower and has slightly better ground clearance.... TC has the secondary shock mount and offers the race kit plus heim UCAs as an option.

The AllPro offers a tad more travel (I think). Seems like a coin flip for my needs, but I'm leaning towards the TC at the moment to get the heim joint UCAs.

TC and All Pro have the same travel on paper, and in application. I just like how the TC's are built in comparison. I'd go TC.

Not actually the same on paper. TC states 11.5 allpro states 12". TC originally claimed 12", but that had to change it after people called them on it.

In the real world they may be the same.

bimrunner, I'd love to tag along and get some pics next time you go out wheeling!

Lets make it happen at some point! Not exactly sure when I'll go and sometimes it is just a wake up, decide to go and bam! I'm scheming to though and I bet a good pic wouldn't hurt this rig! Hahaha. My pics are definitely not in you photogs catagory.

Can I tag along when my truck gets done? Be a good excuse to camp up in Tahoe for a couple of nights.

We will find a time that works at some point! I make it hard since I have a family and kids increase the challenge, but even if it is only a one day trip, it is always good.

I'm in that same boat, and would be down for a run... Depending on what trail you want to run will determine what I bring out of the stable :-)

The 5th gen is my DD.

FYI, just got off the phone with King, if you're going to keep coil-over but NOT add bypasses then yes eventually add the adjusters (so cool you can do that after the fact).

IF you're going to add bypasses it's advised NOT to add the adjusters as the bypasses control your dampening and you can create an unwanted push/pull that happens if you add adjusters into a dual shock setup.

Figured I'd just pass that along.

Thanks! Good info! I am not sure I will add bypasses... probably wait and see how much mo-betta your setup is! Lol. If not, I definitely will be adding the adjusters at the first rebuild (if I can wait that long...). I know it is going to be a little process of fine-tuning the suspension.
