Black Paint

A while back I read somewhere in this forum that Toyota's black paint application does not include a clear coat. My last car was a black '05 BMW X5 and have to say the paint was bomb proof, it would scratch from the slightest bump. Door dings would dent the door panel before scratching the paint. My '11 Limited is black and I'm looking for an application to help minimize its vulnerability to scratching. Any suggestions?

2014 black TE premium here. I have power washed it once and hand waned it the second time. I will not take this through and automatic car wash. This paint seems to scratch and chip really easy to me. All of my previous cars (non toyota) have been black and they didn't scratch or chip this easy.

Your car absolutely has clear coat.

Many people confuse clear coat with Teflon coating and think it serves the same purpose. They think that because they didn't pay the dealer an additional amount when they bought the car that it doesn't have clear coat. the dealers use this to scare customers and rip them off.

there are 5 or 6 different brands of clear coat and many variables that change within the same brand and between other brands. So this would affect hardness, flexibility, and appearance.
