Blacking Out the Runner's Chrome

Lots of badge pictures but very little on the Limited bumpers. I am in the market for a new 4Runner, and finally decided I cannot do the limited due to the plastic-chrome going overboard.

Am I the only one who hates all the chrome on the 4R LE? are the few modding the bumper just doing plasti-dip, or is there any good wraps?

thanks

Take a look at my truck as I have wrapped, removed and or covered up most of the chrome.

If you go to their website it says out of stock.
I also emailed them a week ago about a kit for a Limited and they claimed there will be one by the end of the month.

"Thanks for your interest in our 4Runner Black Out Kit.

We will have a 4Runner Limited kit available for sale by the end of the month. If you would like – we can send you a message when it’s available.

Thanks,
The Nox Lux Team"

They need one for a TRD PRO as well!

If you're referring to the blackout kit, it's not OEM. The invoice bears the company name NOX LUX. Including pic of company letterhead below.

That said, I still believe this is what the SE Gulf States dealers are putting on their 'XP' SR5s.

I thought the original price of $79 was too high, but bit my lip and ordered anyway--but at nearly double the cost, that's crazy.

Looks like Gulf States Toyota uses the same kit on the T Force package. My parts department looked them up and even had the same picture as the nox lux website. Went ahead and ordered it of course.

You can remove the chrome piece without removing the entire grill from the truck. I've done it twice - once the paint the original chrome one, and once again to replace that one with a factory black piece from a trail.

Once you remove the plastic cover so you can access the back of the grill, it's not that hard. There are a couple small screws, then the rest is clips. You have to release each of the clips from the back with a screwdriver or something similar while you pull the chrome piece from the front. The clips break pretty easily, but if you break one or two in the process, it won't matter much since you also have the screws holding that piece in.

Thanks buddy! I'll try that out tomorrow!

I would be interested how long it takes to get it through Toyota. The NoxLux website has a perpetual 4-6 week delay. How much demand could there be? I envision a couple of kids with a 3D printer pumping out kits between classes

My parts manager said Thursday so we'll see tomorrow.

Always liked F150s. Ford quality might be close to Toyota. Check back at 300K miles and let me know how it works out for you.

Just traded my 2012 ram sport crew in on a 2016 4Runner trail edition (Canada)
I bought a can of plasti dip and was just wondering the best way to tape off the silver pieces on the front and rear bumpers? Tape to edges or leave a gap and dip on to painted portion and peel after? I think the silver pieces are separate so peeling after seems to be best option.

I won't be picking it up until Monday,I could only test drive an sr5 so I haven't seen the trail edition yet to see how the pieces are put together that I want to dip

It's looking like the end of the month.

I bought the last available Nox Lux kit on eBay back on March 9, and I haven't seen it in stock since. I'm sure glad I did, as my new 4Runner arrived Thursday, and I installed the kit yesterday. Easy Peasey!

I popped off the end caps to my roof rails and dipped them black (on sr5's they are all silver matching the rails but the crossbars are black). Looks MUCH better.

Still haven't dipped any emblems and I don't think I want to. It looks really clean just stock but I dunno

Interior - Steering Wheel Emblem

while this thread pertains mostly if not entirely to the exterior pieces, has anyone blacked/grayed/restyled their steering wheel emblem? plastidip would work well i'm sure, but i would want to do some pretty extreme prep work to eliminate over-spray inside.

is it adhered to the wheel with some type of 3M or glue? are there pin holes behind it?

if so, i also thought it would be cool to remove and replace it with something like the "TEQ" emblems

I never noticed the steering wheel but I did do my glove box door and shifter.
