Blacking Out the Runner's Chrome

Anybody who purchased the SR5 kit for their TE / OR have the black SR5 emblem laying around? I’d love to take it off your hands

I may have them in my garage - have a 2015 Trial so didn't use them

I took every other letter off and held a straight edge up against the bottom of the remaining letters and carefully aligned the new letters. Then did the same with the rest of the letters. It was pretty easy.

Thanks for the tip. Swapped out the rear lettering & emblem last night.
Adhesive removal was a PITA but got it done.

Kind of a longshot but does anyone have any pictures of a earlier 5th gen (before 2014) with and blacked out rear emblems? I am not sure if I want to dip mine or not, I'm worried about how they will look with the non blacked tail lights that come stock on 2010-2013s.

I took care of the chrome on mine, 6 bolts per side... problem solved

Yep. Used Plastidip and a piece of cardboard to catch any major over spray. Been on about 6 months and still looks good!

Finished the backs...Had to take off the rear garnish to fix the goo-gone damage...big thanks to Harper for the advice on getting it off and Nashman's TSM getting me through it!

4Shore, this looks amazing! I have the gray mica colored 4th Gen with lots of chrome that I hate! Do you have some specific color codes for the paint you used, and where did you purchase it? Thanks for the inspiration to tackle my chrome problem!

I dont remember. Sorry. It was the only one that was even close to the MGM though.

Maybe things have changed, I haven't painted cars in 15 years but we would always refuse to paint "Crome" metal or plastic because it would eventually flake off, I would, and plan on my rig, just removing the Crome all together.
Just my two cents

first post on the forum, just got my 2018 trdorp about a month ago, first thing i did was black out everything. if you know how to use plastidip it works very well , key is to make sure the bottle is warm, and is pretty durable for daily driving..might have to redo later on after a few camping trips but for 40 bux you can beat it. going to do the rack rails soon also.

Has anyone had success with the emblem and 4RUNNER logo overlays? I found a set on Ebay that looks to stick right over the existing badges. Thoughts?

I love my overlays as well, had them for about 10 months, no complaints

I have the 2010-2013 body style, and I am wondering if anyone has a complete parts list from handles to emblems to the chrome pieces on the bumpers.

I know the standard way is to use heat but that is also the way to remove the rear emblems themselves too.

Just curious if anyone has tried, I have a feeling I am going to just have to remove the emblems and the overlays if I want to do it.

They're double sided taped to the emblems, I can't imagine they're that hard to remove

It feels like it is going to take the emblems off with them which will take more time for me to replace and not sure I trust myself to get them on straight again lol. Just curious if anyone had tried so I can plan accordingly.

I’m thinking of using SEM Trim Black to paint the lift gate handle and emblems at the same time. I would like to paint them without removing the hatch handle. Would this be a good idea?
