Blacking Out the Runner's Chrome

Yeah I did the rear emblems in the same paint -- Maybe I used too much goo gone...I had a hell of time getting all of the adhesive off, even being patient.

were you trying to heat the adhesive up before getting it off? I heated it up to get the letters off. Once they were all off I started to peel the adhesive off. At first I started heating it up again, wrong move. The adhesive peels off much easier from the plastic if it's cool. Here is a before and after:

Finished the backs...Had to take off the rear garnish to fix the goo-gone damage...big thanks to Harper for the advice on getting it off and Nashman's TSM getting me through it!

^ looks real good, i love that color choice. what did you use to reattach?

What did you use to reattach yours?

I haven't done this yet and don't know if I will. I ghetto rattle-can painted my old emblems for my Honda Accord and the paint never stuck well after the first few years. :(

Rear emblem panel the same on all trims?

hot damn all the chrome blackouts look good! anyone with a TE or SR5 who has blacked their chrome know if the rear emblem panel is the same as a LTD (where the whole panel is chrome not just the logo and letters)? wondering how much harder this would be if they are different.

so you never took the letters off? I guess you masked them off and painted?

The emblems come separate than the garnish, rear garnish is new too. It was an expensive mistake. My intention was to only buy the 40 dollar emblems paint them up and have them ready to go once I pulled the old emblems off, but we all know how that turned out.

So once my new garnish arrived I just attached the new, already painted emblems - replaced the garnish and I was good as new. (well, better than new!:biggrin2:)

Maybe I missed something, how did the goo gone damage your emblem plate? Is there any other safe alternatives to getting rid of the adhesive residue that you know of?

So you can order black emblems? you got a part number handy, i found the part number for the toyota garnish but i'm assuming thats for the silver..

In case anyone was wondering, I purchased Flat Black Krylon fusion at Hobby Lobby last night.... $4.99 / can

I plan on blacking out my Roof Rack End Caps and Front Logo this evening...

Has anyone attempted the chrome strips yet?
