The pictures are awesome too, seeing those is what is driving me to get my first 4runner to build up and start traveling with too. Thanks for all the posts!

Thank you! I need to do a better job at keeping this thread updated. I love my 4Runner, it has taken me a lot of fun places. I highly recommend picking one up. With very few mods (or even none) you will be able to get a lot of amazing spots.

I see you live in SF...did have a mechanic/shop do the suspension installation? I have a 2007 SE wtih XREAS. I was wanting to get a lift installed.

Thank you! Other than the welding on my long travel I did all the installs myself. If you are looking at spacers/coilovers, it actually isn't too bad to do.

Anytime that they are on the truck, they are full (other than before my first stop at a gas station, or on my way home from a long trip)! I have yet to need all 15 gallons, but have used 10 gallons a handful of times.
 
Hi, 3rd gen guy here. I have been looking at 4th gens for a while now, and just had a few questions about your 2" long travel setup if you don't mind. Does it feel much different than with the stock control arms for on road handling? Being that it widens the trac by 4 inches, do you think it improves stability overall and around corners?

I ask because if I do get a 4th gen in the future I would like to build a it to do everything well, but it would be used more so on pavement than off road on my weekend excursions. That means a lot of highways and twisty roads. I am really fascinated with the idea of having a 4th gen that could carve through the canyon roads (paved) pretty quickly. Certainly faster than a bone stock 4runner. So I would stay around stock height, put on tires slightly wider than stock, do a stiffer valved shock, etc. Anyway, was just interested in hearing what your thoughts are on how the extended control arms affect road manners? And if you think they would be beneficial for what I'm wanting.

You lose your front sway bar for this kit to work, so any benefit in width is outweighed by added height and no sway bar.

Some had lowered their 4th gen and set them up for on road driving. If you aren't wheeling it, that may be a better option for you.

Ok. I didn't realize it deletes the sway bar. Of you course one could always do something custom. Thanks for the info

Well, I would usually be the last person to post a photo of a that sticker I put on my rig, but when you are personally handed that sticker by Akio Toyoda, I think it makes the cut!

Realized I never posted this, but this group would appreciate it. I was on my honeymoon a few months ago and while adventuring around in Iceland I drove a brand new Arctic Trucks Hilux AT35. They are able to fit 35's with close to zero lift, and with a few other tiny adjustments they can fit all the way up to 37's.

Great truck!
