blinkers clicking but not blinking on one side

I have stock blinkers. No LED's or nuthin' fancy like that. So when I push the stalk up (right blinker) about 75% of the time I will get the sound of blinking but the light on the dash will come on once, go off and not come back on. When this happens the outside blinkers are not blinking. I can wiggle the stalk a bit and get them to come on.

My question is 'is this the stalk or the relay'. Again, I get a blinking noise as if the connection is properly made by the switch, but inconsistent actual blinking.

first guess would be a failing relay. not sure how much those suckers are, but it might be worth getting one to test. and if it still fails start looking at wiring.

If your problem is only on one side (left or right), I don't see how it could be the flash relay. I vote stalk. The relay will cycle as long as it sees below its maximum resistance. It is up to the stalk to apply that current to the right place.

So you're saying my stalk is dirty on the right maybe?


Damn, I want so hard for 'dirty stalk' to be funny. I. Just. Can't. Make. It. So.

Mine does this too. Only when its hot out. I can push the stalk forward to engage the high beams and it works fine.

its only 4 screws requited to take the stalk out. (maybe 6) take the 2 out that hold the steering wheel cover (in between the steering wheel and the dash)
then unscrew they smaller gold screws that hold the stalk in, once those are out the stalk just wiggles out of the connectors.

i vote the stalk connections are getting worn or loose.
