Blizzard performance

Awesome blizzard today. Over a foot of snow with up to 60mph wind gusts. Snow coming down 2 to 3" an hour. I left for work at about 1:30. I work at the prison...we never close. I have a 2016 SR5 premium, stock. She did great. I had to drive 30mph because of the the white out conditions but I never felt like I was going to lose traction. I've read of people complaining about the stock Bridgestones but I found them to be extremely good in the snow. Mine have over 16K miles on them. She drove through a foot of snow with ease on some unplowed sections and easily blasted through some 2' deep spots at intersections. I passed dozens of cars, trucks, SUVs and 18 wheelers off the road in the snow banks. I don't think I slid once. I've got 37 years of driving in snow under my belt, so maybe that helped.

Experience means a lot when driving in bad weather, but when you replace those OEM tires with something better you will love the difference.

I needed to run an errand off Cape today, and waited til the last minute. Drove from down cape towards the mainland, met SNOW epicly and returned home in the blizzard. Route 6 on Cape Cod got very bad quickly, but the 4Runner handled it just as my previous 2014 Tundra, and 2009 Tacoma had years before!

Been watching 7 news all day with the updates as it's come across RI/MA.

I needed to run an errand off Cape today, and waited til the last minute. Drove from down cape towards the mainland, met SNOW epicly and returned home in the blizzard. Truck felt very stable on the roads...handles very well in the snow just like my 01 did (2015 Limited)

I am orignally from Mashpee, but live in Harwich Port now! 2016 Magnetic Gray SR5 bought from Falmouth Toyota this last fall.

Did you guys see the Gen 1 or 2 4Runner that crashed into the house in Pelhem, NH today? They just showed it on WHDH 7 news, a security camera got it perfectly. It hit at a pretty good rate of speed.

Had 3 feet at the end of the driveway thanks to the plow guy. Put the sucker in 4W Low and gunned it and went through like butter. Very impressed with my new Firestone Destination AT tires and the 1" front lift I think helped to.

Left Work at 4pm yesterday which is just outside of Boston, and drove Home to NH in the Blizzard. What a ride!! The Falken Wildpeak AT3W performed remarkable. I even had to bust through some 2'+ snow piles. These tires never skipped a beat.

Snow?

It's about time you guys in New England enjoyed the winters that I endured in Connecticut and Maine from 1960-1980. I moved west to escape them but, this year, we've had a dandy, with snow up to our a.h. in the last month and we just had an ice storm on top of it. Finally backed the 4R out of the garage today, over a huge berm left by the snowplows, and we are mobile again. It's going to be 45-50F here this weekend! And about time! - Ted

Then I realized I must have taken it out of 4wd when I pulled into the garage last night. The stock Bridgestones work really well in the snow. It's a heavy vehicle and the traction control system works well but I have no complaints with these tires. I read a lot of reviews saying how horrible these tires were in the snow but I drove to work yesterday in the height of the blizzard and I had a hard time getting them to break loose.

I drive to a ski resort here in Utah 3 days a week and I've never lost traction or felt unsafe with the KO2s. Great tire and performance in white out conditions on Interstate and resort road.

Unless you compare your OEM tires in comparable conditions you really don't know how good they are or aren't. All you know is your nonscientific experience, and much of such isn't very enlightening or helpful. That's why I take posts like this with a grain of salt, and look at the tire tests being done by several groups that try to compare tires side by side in various conditions. Indeed, one of the most important attributes of a tire for winter use isn't its ability to get the vehicle moving, but to get the vehicle stopped.

Glad you feel the OEM tires are working out for you, in this one case. But you should know there are many better choices out there for winter performance, especially in places where winter is long and harsh. As they say, information is power...

Damn I missed that blizzard . can't wait to get back to mass. and drive in that white stuff. 80deg F down here in sw florida.
