Blower motor keeps failing, even after replacement

Can you expand? Like do you have any modifications, what year and model, what other things have been diagnosed.

I have a 2014 TE and I'm on my third blower motor. The first two went pretty quickly but this one seems to be holding. Hope I didn't just jinx myself. Truck is totally stock, no mods. No one at the dealership seems to be able to explain it. Big surprise. Anyway, I know this is no help, but you're not alone.

I am on my 2nd. Although the first never actually failed just starting making more noise and was replaced under warranty. It's been in for about a year with no problems. It was implied by they Toyota tech that it was probably due to dust from off roading. They replaced it anyway so I didn't think too much about it.

Anyone experience this? Just hit 25k mi

HVAC blower motors will fail if operated at high speeds. so keep the speed down often. never run at high speeds for more than 5 min.

next keep air filter clean. dirty air filter causes less air to reduce motor speed. if filter is dirty and at the high speed setting the motor will over rev and the armature will get damaged.. dc motor has no speed control brushes also get damaged / over heats brush arcing.

You must not live in a region of the US where it's hot I gather? Many of us do not have the option to turn the fan down to increase longevity.

I live in Miami and the only tile I ever have the blower on its highest or higher setting is when I get into the 4r and need to cool it fast, it takes about 2 minutes or so depending, and then my fan goes back to the low or setting one.

Tinted windows help a lot on keeping it cool inside also.

Well I can speak from experience living in the south all my life that this is not always the case. Other factors are at play here but even without living in the south.. If the blower is not supposed to be on high then do not design it with a setting that goes to high. It's that simple really otherwise it should operate at that setting without failing..

Case in point few weeks ago we were at 110 heat index and very high humidity. If your vehicle is parked and you begin to drive it takes MUCH longer than 2 minutes to get you to a comfortable place.

Do I always have it on Hi? No! Do I need and use Hi very often during the summer? Yes.

Reminds me maybe of either a bad batch or motors, or a humidity/moisture issue. If the filter is clean, no added stress to motor, maybe something is sweating or dripping on the connector plug, or in the motor itself.

Ill inspect. 105 degree weather mostly dry. Ac works hard. Still, 2 blowers in 25k rediculous on any vehicle. Im guessing its not the blower itself

They must use the same blower motor, they used in the previous gen Tacoma. Replaced the one I had in one of my work trucks (2010 PreRunner) twice. The one I had in a 2013 Tacoma PreRunner was starting to make some noise just before I traded that for a 2014 TRD Off-Road Tacoma.

Was really hoping this blower motor issue wasn't still a problem on the current T4R's.

Well I answered your question I guess.... you do run it on high speed often and over a long period of time. so be prepared to replace the motor every couple of years.

today air temp 95 deg f 75deg dewpoint. I start vehicle ac on let it idle 5 min fan on 3/4 speed. then start driving , in about 10 min the air blowing on me is cold then I turn it down slightly. after 30 min I run it on a low speed.

under the dash is 2 alum hot water pipes to the heater core I would insulate those exposed pipes. they do add heat to the interior.

having GM vehicles over 50 yrs this is also what happens if the blower is on max. I replaced a few on vehicles with no ac or ac dead. owners run them @ max all the time.

Living in FL and TX, and wishing I was in 60 deg weather, I run my blower motors hard, and have always gotten at least 100k mi before replacing. I'm also an engineer and I don't design things to break at any user input. That's why I bought a yota. Nuff said.

I posted hoping someone had experience with a secondary type failure like a resister or controls. It's hard to reproduce and therefore hard to diagnose or even isolate. Last time it happened I was on a road trip and in Ar-Kansas

Same here. It made the ol' failing blower motor rattling sound and woudln't maintain speed. Other times it barely turned or didn't turn at all. At least I'm not the only one. (I think there was one other post.) Still, this is bizarre. I first looked to replace it myself expecting it to find an inexpensive Denso part or something, but only found a $35-ish after market that had reviews with fitment issues. So I had my wife follow me to the dealer for warranty because they take at least 4 hours to do anything, including replace a blower that should take 5 min.

Maybe as it gets cooler I'll pull it and dig deeper.

I'm very happy for the cold blooded folks who don't have black leather in Texas and don't have the issue. Thanks for the helpful insight. :redbrick:

So no blown fuses.. You would think if this were a wiring issue that you would be having issues with other electronic issues. It very well could be a bad batch of fan motors? :hat:

I would think it has to be a bad batch. We have a 2012 sr5 with black leather and factory tint(so not much) and 70k miles. No problem with ours. I work outside so when I'm in a my car and my house the air is cold cause I'm done dealing with it otherwise. For us it definitely takes longer to cool off than 2 minutes. Maybe we are using it wrong? The other dial has to be on the red side right?

I've never owned any make of vehicle that's cooled to comfort in 2 minutes after the car has been roasting and it's 150 effing degrees inside the car. I might be getting cooler air in two minutes but the testicle gauge is still in the red at this point. If I get in my Ford I might be getting to a comfortable cabin and body temperature in 8-12 minutes and if it's a high UV day even longer. It's very difficult to get to a comfortable temp on high temp/high humidity days there's just no way around it.

Blower motor intermittently stops working

I have a 2014 4-Runner and very recently the blower motor just stops working on occasion. After powering off the system, the fan will start working again after a while. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue? Thanks for the help.

if the motor gets too hot it will stop . when it cools it will work again. a sign that its damaged. do not use max/highest speed for more than 5 min.
