Blown Brake Fuse - 4th Gen.

I have a 2003 4Runner and the ABS brake fuse keeps burning out. I had the dealer check on it the first time and they said I had a short in my rear spoiler wiring connection (I have the after market spoiler, installed with my purchase of the vehicle). They supposedly wrapped the wires where the connection was to prevent this from happening again. Well, two weeks later, the fuse is out! Now it is going back to the dealership again.
Any of you experience this? Any solutions found?
For a while, I drove around with the spoiler brake light disconnected and I did not have any problems, but I would like to have all this working right.

so you're saying that the brake fuse does not blow when you have the rear spoiler brake light disconnected right?

if you are isolating the problem and know that this only happens when the rear spoiler brake light is connected, you know it has to do w/ the rear spoiler.

which means take it back to the place that installed it and have em install it correctly.

I agree. Take it back where it was done. They should install the wire harness in a way where it cannot rub, or protect it with a rubber/plastic sleeve in some way.

If all they did was wrap some electric tape around it, I would go back. The only time I use electric tape is for temporary connections or to wrap an already-secure connection.

Ok, got my vehicle back from the dealership and they are ordering a new LED light for the spoiler. They said this one was full of water...causing the short. Maybe this will fix it??

The spoiler is not supposed to be full of water. Someone did a bad job of sealing it to the truck during the install (aftermarket). Maybe they didn't install a gasaket properly, or at all.

I hope they check the inside of your rear liftgate. If water is in the spoiler, maybe there's water inside the door as well!! Make sure to mention to them that if any future problems (rust, electrical malfunction) with the liftgate occur, they should make good on repairs or replacement of those items. If your rear power window motor suddenly starts acting up, you have a likely source of the problem from the water.

Hope everything works out OK for your truck. It stinks to have a service dept. making mistakes like this.
