Blown Head Gasket...

So yesterday I left California for my Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona and I blew out the head gasket. I really have no idea what to do as the car means so much to me but the repair and tow bill is going to cost so much money. I don't want to abandon it but I may have to. Any help would be great guys

Unfortunately, if it's a blown head gasket, you really don't have any other options than towing and fixing the HG. If it's not the HG (bad hose, bad hose clamp, bad thermostat, bad radiator) then you may have a smaller repair bill ... but the HG is a show stopper when it comes to driving it.

Did you make it to GCU? Where is the truck now? The local Phoenix 4Runner group is fairly large and spread out as well as active and might be able to help out.

I assume it has a 3.0? since they are notorious for head gasket issues. Is your 4Runner a manual or auto? I may have a 3.0 available very soon if you're interested. It runs great, I'm swapping a 3.4L into my 89 4Runner.

Check with your cell phone carrier, your car insurance company, your credit card companies, most of those have complimentary roadside assistance. Stack up enough of those and you can get the truck home.

I got my 4Runner from a mechanic who took it in after the head gasket blew on the original owners on their way back up to Flagstaff. They just left it sitting there. It's a very expensive fix. Honestly it'd be cheaper to buy another whole 4Runner at this point.

I did make it but not in the 4runner. It has the 3.0 with the manual transmission. The 4runner is back in California niw though so the Phoenix guys probably won't be much help at the moment unfortunatley.

There was a family that had a 4Runner, that lived in the Northern part of AZ. They came down into town for some reason, and on their way back up, the head gasket blew. It was so expensive a fix they abandoned the Runner with someone for like 300 bucks. A toyota mechanic somehow got his hands on it and just fixed the engine slowly in his own time, and then sold it since he already had other vehicles, at which point I got it. Just a statement about how it's expensive to fix. Sorry, I was insanely tired when I wrote that last post. :rip:
