Yeah just some cheap mods that will improve the overall appearance of my car. I will check that thread out thanks man. I was just in Woodland Hills last week at my cousin's house! I'm not going to do a jet black tint, just black it out a little.

So, are you saying my turn signal wouldn't be visible? Anyway, I've never heard of a street that has a 50MPH Speed Limit. Most of the speed limits posted in Burbank are 25MPH. I don't think the impact of a 20 MPH accident will kill a human.

for what its worth, BMW and others i believe run a 4300k light -i know BMW and mini coopers run this for a fact as i use to work for them. the reason they chose this is, its about as close to natural sun light as you can get. me personally i would not go above 5000k for lights, because you start losing visible light output drastically after that. 6k+ lights are really for show and ricers... but again its your rig and your money.

I know they're for ricers but I like the blue light output. I don't know what you guys mean by losing visible light output because my friend has 8000k and his light output overwhelms mine by a lot!

I recently put the 6k HID's in the stock housings (99 4runner) because I thought they'd be better for driving on the hwy at night. The light output was awful on dark roads- dangerously so. The light is scattered everywhere. I pulled them out and replaced them with the sylvania ultra bright bulbs and those work great! I think some of the halogens (like nighthawks) may have a blue tint to them if the blue is what you want. But don't waste your money on HID's unless you're going to upgrade the housings to the projector type that those bulbs are made for.
I wish I would have asked about installing HID's on this forum before I did it and saved the $80. The only upside is I run 6k HID's in my 993 so now I have 2 spares!

I have two questions: 1) does anyone on here know where to purchase projection headlights at...or if they even make any?
2) what are y'all talk about when you say "installing retrofit"? I think SCRunner12 was saying these worked great, but are expensive. What HID's is he/yall retrofitting into his 4Runner...are they from a newer 4Runner?? Or did our generation come with HID's and I just didn't know it?
I've been wanting to put a set of 6000 in my Toy, but for the reasons everyone has stated...I haven't yet. If I could find a safe...not blinding everyone and having good focused light output...way to install HID's, I'd do it today! My wife's Infinity has them stock...man I love driving her car at night! Manufactures know how bright and annoying these lights can be. Her car has a switch so you can automatically aim her lights down if you are towing or have enough weight in the back to bring the front end up...thus blinding on coming traffic.

We all gotta remember when we were 16 and 17. I bought so much stupid crap for my first car back then! You guys remember those spoilers for your window wipers?? yeah i had them, freaking bolt on muffler tips, ghetto ass pin striping, green headlights... I spent a lot of money and useless stuff but at the time I thought it was bad ass. The big thing is that I'm a car nut and this is a hobby and back than I don't think i had forums to refer to so all I had was pepboys to find car stuff. We should give him a break, let him experiment.
Jimmy you sound like a good kid. Your soaking up our advice like a sponge and that is pretty rare for teenager. Here is what I would do. Reward yourself and go ahead and buy your HID's at DDM Tuning. Make sure you get 35watt and not 55. They are pretty cheap there and they are a good product. You prob wont spend more than $50 for everything. One thing you gotta do for us though is install them yourself. If I can do it anyone can. If you get lost just do a search up on the Google Custom Search bar on the top right. You should find a ton of info on there. Or just send one of us an IM.

look up richashay on this forum and check out his thread on the LS460 projector retrofit he did, truly awesome work and THAT is about the only way to put HID/projectors into our trucks. there is nothing bolt in about it and places like "the retrofit source" (wesite) have piles of parts to choose from.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Haha, my dad was telling me the same exact thing. He said when he got his first car at 16 he would spend most of the days working on it and trying to figure out new things to do.
I was just looking at DDM Tuning but I'm honestly really confused. I don't know what you guys mean by a projector, or retrofit. I was talking to my mechanic about it today and he was telling me he could do it all for $170 and get me some nice 8000K bulbs. I told him everybody online is saying I can do it for under $100 and I want to do it on my own now, thanks to your guys' motivation.
I just need to know what to buy. Like the retrofit projector and which bulbs to buy with it. I'm pretty set on 8000k as well.

DDM Tuning uses cheap Chinese bulbs and ballast, you can get the same quality on Amazon or eBay for half the price. Clear view digital was the seller I bought my last HID kit from and it was $40 and came with some free LED's too. They both shipped in 3 days opposed to 3 weeks from DDM since they came from Ohio and not China directly.

I mean like others said, your truck, your money. I don't have and mods yet because I'm slowly (but surely) doing my maintenance first. Then ill worry About LED taillights, 06+ projector headlights, a new headunit, a $500 spoiler, etc. And I'm 18. 8000k isn't going to help light output unless (and this is still a maybe) you have projectors. And go light on the taillight tint, it can greatly reduce light output. Get enough color and then stop. Don't do an extra coat or two, it'll turn out too dark.

I've put a DDM HID kit in every car I've owned for the past 5ish years, and I've NEVER had a single issue with quality or performance. Everything is always top quality for the price with them. I agree about the shipping though, those chinamen need faster boats.

Just an FYI about HID bulb temperatures - 4300K is the whitest and BRIGHTEST light that you will get. As you increase color temperature (Kelvins) from that point, you are diminishing the light output. 8000K bulbs will be bright blue/purple and will be a scattered mess of unuseable light in your halogen housings. If your going to put drop in HID's in your factory housings, at least do yourself a favor and get some that are bright enough to actually make a difference in what your seeing on the road. 6000K is the absolute max that anyone should EVER buy. @ 8000k though, your "Bro" factor will increase dramatically.
EDIT: oh and 55wat ballasts are "cool" but generate a **** ton more heat and are more prone to fail. You will also burn through the bulb faster with a 55watt ballast.

Jimmy, where are you located? You can install a HID kit in about 15 mins tops. Do not let you mechanic take your money. If you are near any members I'm sure they will help you out. I can sell you a cheap 6000K HID kit for cheap if you want to try one out first.
Please listen to Rickashay, he really knows his stuff. We are harsh because it's not just the looks, but the performance that hinders. With an 8000k setup you won't be able to see as well at night, which could end up injuring yourself or another person potentially. You already have being young and a new driver going against you, you don't need horrible night vision as well. I could care less what color your headlights look like, as that is your choice and preference, not mine. I just want yourself and others to be safe in the process.
Also please check out HIDplanet.com and theretrofitsource.com for ideas. Right now TheRetrofitSource is having a sale so you could get a complete retro setup for around $200. It will be far superior to and drop in kit. PM me if you want some more info or just to shoot ideas off of. If you are close enough in Cali I could show you my retrofit and how worth it is.

here is my 4500k's this morning on the way to work. The light is pretty well focused, and when aimed correctly, don't negatively impact oncoming drivers.

I'm running 4300k's and love the clear white light. Not yellow and dingy, and brighter than the stock setup. I think the main thing is to use clear lenses.
I don't get flashed by oncoming traffic, and have even asked someone I know to drive ahead of me, to let me know if my Headlights posed any problems for them.
Do Retrofits produce more light??? YES. Are they expensive?? YES. Are they worth it?? Depends on how deep your wallet is.
For me, Retrofit's were N0T an option. I don't like the look of them, as they look like eyeballs to me.... kinda like Herby the love bug. THat being said, if you ad LED strips in the housings, black out the shrouds and reflector bowls... it's not too bad. I just prefer the stock look, with some brighter bulbs.
