Blue + white = purple?

Hey guys, I'm neck deep in the led console upgrade. Things are going pretty well, but I'm stumped on the hvac controls. I've got the bulbs in, no hot spots, the lights are a beautiful blue.... until i get the cover back on, then the blue takes on a purplish shade. I shone a white led through the panel and there's no discoloration, shines through white.

I'm out of ideas on how to get the light to come through clean.

The blue coming through the filters that are in the controls are causing that purplish hue you are getting, I had the same issue with LED's at work coming through a piece of glass we were working with. My question why do blue? Why not just white? Blue is so hard on your eyes, white is a little better, but red would be best (I don't personally like red though)

My problem exactly, Blue, no, white is a little to bright and red I don't care for. so I stick with the "dull yellow green" oem incandescent as green LED's would end up looking to "ford" for me.

LED is a small concern for me though so I'll stick with OEM till one of my dash lights burns out.

The previous owner of my 2000 installed blue led lamps, and they look pretty blue to me. Wouldn't have been my first choice, but it's ok.

Remember the filter allows a certain spectrum of light to pass, and nothing else. That's why a red lens makes white light look red. When you start with blue, you no longer have full spectrum available, so the filtering changes things. I would think the bulbs are the problem here, not the filter. I've not looked at mine to see if the PO removed anything. It's possible.

If you like blue, I'm sure there is a way to make it work. I will eventually switch mine out, not in a hurry to anything right now, but I like white.

Well, here's the thing that puzzles me: when i shine white light through the cover, it comes through white. The hvac was shining green because green plastic caps were on the stock bulbs. The blue bulbs are beautiful blue until I put the cover on. The rest of the truck where I've converted hasn't had this discoloration problem.

And to answer your question about why blue: I just think it looks awesome. And soothing. It really looks great everywhere I've done it so far.
