Edit: see post #3 (here) for end results on this one; everything else just chronicles my adventure with this mod.
I got a Scosche bt1200 bluetooth car kit recently (because it's a full on car kit, supposedly just plugs in with whatever stereo you got, and costs $25 in certain locations on the interwebs). I have an 07 sr5 with a very standard [single disk, am/fm, aux, and I think 6 speakers, or wiring for 6 speakers] stereo.
I certainly could just plug it in inline with the 4r's stereo, but I want to figure out the wiring and preferably splice together adapters from my bt kit to the cd1 interface on the back of the stereo, especially since this isn't already taken up. I'd also like to integrate the bt kit controls with the steering wheel buttons without losing original functionality (tall order, I know).
Questions, then:
A: anybody know of a place I can (for cheap as possible) buy/get a plug for that cd1 slot? I can deal with just wires on the other end (this'd be preferable, actually). I'm aware of the possibility of getting an Iphone/Ipod hookup kit and just cutting that plug off, but it seems wasteful (as I do not own any apple products).
A.1: I haven't found anything yet on wiring diagrams for this plug particularly, and eventually I'll need some kind of data related to that, so if anyone has useful links or knowledge, please do inform.
B: I'm trying to make sense of the wiring diagram (looking at an 03 EWD I found) to see how to splice wires into the steering buttons for seeking only (I don't care about controlling my phone's volume with the steering wheel buttons, and the mode button is even less useful; not to mention if I want to retain their original functionality, it'll just confuse the stereo a LOT if I do use them), and it looks like the seek and volume buttons are wired up in series (both on one wire) instead of independently..can someone definitively confirm or deny this? I really hope not..
reason for B: the kit I got doesn't seem to provide inputs coming off its stereo harness wires for buttons; that comes only off the remote, which is a separate plug entirely on the bt kit. I can figure out what wires I need for the remote's plug, I just need to know about the steering wheel wiring.
This'd be fun to turn into a DIY if I get it working. Any help is appreciated!
