Body Lift Opinions needed.

Hey,

At the end of this week, I should be ordering a 4xinnovations front bumper(somebody backed into my stock front bumper, so why not upgrade?!) But I am in need of some opinions. My truck is basically stock right now, but with 265/75 tires. It is a 1999 highlander, so it has the factory "tall" springs.

I obviously don't need a body lift currently, but in your opinion, do you think it would be smart to go ahead and purchase and install a 1" or 2" body lift now, planning ahead for larger tires eventually?

The reason I ask, is because 4xinnovations offers the bumper made for no body lift, and also for 1 or 2" body lifts.

Again, just looking for some good advice!

How big of tire to you plan to go? Are you going for height or off road performance?

If you don't like the idea of trimming a bit, then a 1" would help with 33s. I would avoid the body lift if at all possible though. 1.5-2" body lift is almost necessary on 35s.
 
IMO 1" is needed if running 33's and plan on wheeling. It helps clear the up travel and won't cause bent front fenders.
 
I doubt I will ever do 35's, because I won't want to re gear. But maybe just a 1" will do, for ease of clearing 33's.

I don't plan on doing anything too crazy with this vehicle, but something that is all around good off road, camping, trails, etc.

And recommendations on brands, or does it not really matter? Also, does anyone make a bracket or is there a DIY or anything for fixing the gap on the rear bumper after the BL install.

I got my 2" body lift from [MENTION=14772]shootmymime[/MENTION] at Fat Pat's body lifts. He's a forum member.

You wont have a gap in the rear, only in the front the rear bumper is actually connected to the body. For the front bumper its is a simple fix, there is a detailed thread showing the install of a Toytec body lift kit and it shows exactly what to do:

1" is great, 2" overkill for most people unless you have 35s.

Do you really want 35s? I don't.

Oh awesome, thanks for the info! Luckily I am going to be getting a new front bumper, made for a 1" BL so, I won't have to worry about that either!

35s look cool, but I don't think I will ever get them. I have no real use for them, and I don't feel like re gearing. 33s is probably the largest I will go.

Get the 1" BL option for your bumper. I wish I would have, but during the time I got my front CBI and my rear 4xInnovations bumpers they didn't offer the BL option. I have a 1" gap now, it don't look bad but definitely not as clean.
 
Does a body lift significantly effect the center of gravity/handling of a 4runner?
What would be reasons to avoid one? I am toying with the idea of keeping my suspension lift closer to two inches and adding a 1-inch BL to clear 33's

Not really any negatives unless installed incorrectly. They can be unsafe when you dont use grade 8 bolts and washers which most kits have now. Also radiator brackets, shift linkage adjustments and steering rag joint spacers are needed on larger lifts.

Factory is grade 5 btw. Grade 5 is more than acceptable.
 
Didn't want to start a new thread, just looking for some last minute opinions!

I'm going to be ordering my 4xinnovations bumper tonight.

I'm 99% sure Im going to order it without any hoops, because I like the clean look.

But every now and then I see a truck with the grill hoop/stinger and it looks fantastic.(I don't like the headlight hoops) So, no grill hoop or get the grill hoop is the question.

I don't plan on doing anything too crazy with this truck, so no hoops is most likely what I will choose. Unless someone tells me some pros of getting the stinger.
 
A grill hoop is not a stinger. Stingers come to a tight radius and stick way out in front of the rig.

Grill hoops look good IMO. Stingers are thankfully a fad that's going away.

I just assumed they were the same thing, some more extreme than others, since 4xinnovations calls it both in their add.
