Body side panel/molding loose

The body side molding on the driver door is loose at the front. I figured the clips were worn out so I bought new ones from Toyota dealer. They still don't want to grab on to the hole in the body when pushed in. A local body shop put some beads of adhesive in there but part of it is loose again. I want a good long term fix.

Ideas? See pictures attached.

Looks like the hole is worn open in size?
Fill the hole back up to original size with 2-part epoxy putty, the kind you buy in a small stick and knead together. Five minutes working time. You wont need very much at all. This will give the clip something to hold to.

I would use something less permanent like a neutral cure silicone, that's what I did on my fender with the same issue and it has held up very well.

Thanks for your replies.

Zak: Would you recommend just placing a few good beads of the silicone between the molding and body and taping it up to cure for a day?
